Globulation 2 is a real-time strategy game which minimizes micro-management by automatically assigning tasks to units [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6].
The player chooses the number of units he wants to assign to various tasks, and the units will do their best to satisfy the requests. This allows the user to manage more units and focus on strategies rather than individual units jobs [7].

[edit] How it works
The player chooses the number of units he wants to assign to various tasks, and the units will do their best to satisfy the requests.
This allows the user to manage more units and focus on strategies rather than individual units jobs [8].
[edit] Available Tasks
- build/upgrade/maintain buildings
- built to level 1
- maintain at level 1
- upgrade to level 2
- maintain at level 2
- upgrade to level 3
- maintaine at level 3
where not all buildings need maintenance.
- do flag-jobs
- war flags request warriors at a set location
- exploration flags control explorers
- clearing flags define areas to be cleared from wheat, wood, algae and/or papyrous
- passive jobs
- with clearing areas accidently walking-by workers are instructed to clear the ressource if any
- forbidden areas are mainly used to forbid harvesting all wheat/wood so there always remains a seed to grow back
- implicit tasks
- heal
- feed
Hungry units automatically try to get food in inns if they are hungry and to get medical treatment in hospitals if they are hurt. This makes Globulation2 a very lively game.
[edit] Units
The rather poor set of 3 kinds of units, workers, flying explorers and warriors differ in almost all aspects:
- workers
- can build/upgrade/maintain/repair/clear
- learn at school/pool/racetrack
- warriors
- can attack
- learn at barracks/pool/racetrack
- explorers
- can fly/attack air/attack ground at level 3
For more details please see the projects wiki.
[edit] Buildings
There is no explicit tech tree although on most maps a pool is needed to train swimmers to fetch algue to build schools. Upgrades need workers that went through a school. A list of all buildings is available here.
[edit] Game modes
It can be played by a single player, through a local area network (LAN), or through the Internet thanks to Ysagoon Online Game (YOG), a meta-server. It also features AI for playing with computer teams, a scripting language for versatile gameplay or tutorials and an integrated map editor.
Globulation 2 is a multi-platform free software package (released under the GNU Public License), included in several major open source operating system distributions [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] and is rated 5 stars (out of 5) on Linux game tome.
