Why is there no mention that Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) produces the show? Ilikefox34 22:15, 18 March 2007 (UTC)ilikefox34 Mar 08, '07

Girlfriends is exactly the same as Sex and the City, some shows have the same titles. joan is a laywer, mirand is a lawyer on sex and the city. it is the same. they never show either girls in court.

PLEASE HELP!! I have been all over the internet and i watch girlfriends all the time, and yet i cannot seem to get the name of the artist that sings Lynn's songs. I think everything she has done on this show, especially the song that played at the end of the episode when maya and darnell get back together, is awesome and I just want to know who the real artist and the name of that song in particular. Can anyone help????Aussiezoeie 10:19, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] OK, WTF!?!?

I missed the season finale, but I go to CW's Girlfriends page (I'm so GLAD they renewed it!) and...NO TONI! Don't have me get ugly up in here Ladies and Gentleman! What happened to Toni? Donmega60645 13:54, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Well after exploring the IMDB boards, I have some unconfirmed theories.
One theory says that the actors decided to make a pact to get a raise as the show was making the transition to the CW. But because of this transition, there was a lot of uncertainty as to whether or not Girlfriends would make it. To keep her options open Jill Marie Jones (Toni) auditioned for another show and got the part. She made a choice between the new show and Girlfriends and ulimately chose the new show during the uncertainty period. Unfortunetely, Girlfriends did make it and the actors got the raises they wanted.
There's also another theory saying that Jones was also motivated to leave by Tracee Ellis Ross (Joan)'s behaviour on the set (apparently they were not getting along as Ross was acting like a "diva"). Once again these are all unconfirmed rumours so I wouldn't put it in until we get some more credible sources to back these theories up. --64.231.224.88 05:42, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Staying on topic

Please remember this is not a general chat forum about the show - this talk page is for discussions about this encyclopedia article.

You may want to check out the CW website for a place to chat about the show, or at TelevisionWithoutPity.com. NickBurns 01:09, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sivad

"Their relationship becomes rocky when Sivad feels threatened by Lynn's past with William."

is this true, didn't Sivad feel pressured from Lynn's sexual advances and ended the relationship?

If so, then keep it up, but if not, perhaps this needs modification...

BTW, i agree, i don't want this to become another forum topic, but i just want to make sure that i was right

[edit] Episode Guide

should there be an episode guide that shows the episode arcs in detail as well as story arcs? not pressuring any one (since i know that DVD's and internet releases are guarded extremly well), but if possible, does anyone have the information and resources to help start an episode guide

I agree. I wanna know what happens in some of those miniseries and the new season after the November 20th episode. I have reruns on Fox and they have an audio problem that makes it sound crisp whenever a character talks. It sucks. Like when a character says a c, k word, it's kinda crisp if you kno what i mean.74.195.3.11 16:35, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Your wish has been granted, it will take sometime but hold shorty ;-) But is there any kind of way that the episodes of Girlfriends could have its own page?70.241.29.246 08:36, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Toni

Please bring Toni Childs back. She was the glue to the show. It is becoming very boring. Toni was first and Mia second as the glue to the show. Please do not let the show die. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.10.151.138 (talk • contribs)

Okay,

1.) This is Wikipedia, please do not start any discussions

2.) This is Wikipedia, we have no jurisdiction over Jill Marie's descision

3.) This is Jill's Descision, she was looking out for her career when she had a small sense that the series was going to be cancelled (in which she found out the opposite)

4.) Maya first, Lynn second —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.154.105.2 (talk • contribs)

[edit] Criticisms page

Ok, now on to more serious matters.

After an extensive reading of each of all the shows episode synopsis, along with my own personal watching , I feel as though some sort of criticisms section is need to reflect on the controversial viewpoints that this show and its creators hold against interracial marriage and their mixed progeny. It seems very obvious that the writer and director of this program is extremely bigoted against people of mixed heritage and the communions in which they are made. For instance, Persia White's character Lynn is portrayed as a tragically dysfunctional mulatto girl with slight nymphomaniac tendencies and for being the least professional of the bunch, whom of all are strong and independent *fully black women.

Moreover, the most appalling aspect of this show (and the main reason I wrote this) is how the entire relationship between Toni and Todd is handled. The creators of the show went in with the full intention of making there marriage as awkward and devastating as possible. Throughout the whole series, the threat of divorce is always swung back and forth, from the beginning of the marriage to its very end, where he calls for divorce while she is pregnant with his child. The writers mask their bigoted message by applying negative qualities to him (i.e. short, Jewish, fidelity) in order to justify getting rid of him. With no example of what a good interracial marriage should look like, the audience is left to believe there is none, and that it can never leads to love or fulfillment.

As someone who has exclusively studied these kinds of relationships and has grown to greatly admire those who have made the effort to cast down these past biases, I am indeed greatly offended by how this show uses it position to promote such racist ideals while still remaining a mainstream following. It’s because of this I feel this page requires a section that draws attention to these situations and speaks freely about them. 69.250.130.215 03:48, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Heh, I could barely watch the wedding scene and the preceding events because it was so awkward (I tend to get squeamish like that). Nevertheless, although it is a high-profile show, I wouldn't necessarily take it too seriously, it's just entertainment after all. I'm not sure that a fictional account of a few specific people is intended to represent entire races. I take everything on TV with a grain of salt. At any rate, criticism should be based on words given by notable critics, rather than any personal objections. Though I'm sure they can be found, so the section is probably OK for now.Voice-of-All 03:54, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

"Girlfriends has been a source of controversy for many interracial communions and a number of different civil rights organizations"

"Many?" "A number?" But not referencing one controversy or organization? Come on, at least one reference would be nice to keep this section from looking like original research, filled with weasel words.

  • I agree with above. The "Reception" section is the same as the previous "Criticism" section. It can't be defended with any refernces - it is all opinion and should be permanently removed until it can be properly referenced.71.246.199.117 (talk) 11:27, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

  • From Wikipedia's "No Original Research" page:

"(Wikipedia's) policy does not prohibit editors with specialist knowledge from adding their knowledge to Wikipedia, but it does prohibit them from drawing on their personal knowledge without citing their sources."

- not one source is referenced except personal TV watching, and it is motivated (admittedly so) by the writer's personal opinion - they call the show "racist trash" on the talk page's history section. 71.246.199.117 (talk) 15:59, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Maya's miscarriage

Under Maya, the article states she miscarried she and Darnell's child. Yet under Darnell it lists she is pregnant with their child. These two should be reconciled, and as I don't know which is correct, I'll leave that job to someone else. Itsmeiam (talk) 07:31, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Girlfirends Cast Promo.JPG

Image:Girlfirends Cast Promo.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Cancellation

Just got news that Girlfriends got cancelled!!!! King Shadeed 15:25, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Which means Wikipedia is now a forum for attempting to save the show? Um...I think not. THE evil fluffyface (talk) 23:36, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

And if you keep putting these numbers on this page or the actual article itself they will get deleted. Didn't you read the guidelines for talk pages on Wikipedia? This is not a forum to talk about Girlfriends. THE evil fluffyface (talk) 20:25, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Running Jokes cleanup

I'm going to remove some of the things, they don't qualify as running jokes, some of them are in fact sub plot's like Joan's failed marriage.76.223.74.38 (talk) 03:38, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Looking for help writing an article about the spin-offs and crossovers of this series

I am writing an article about all of the series which are in the same shared reality as this one through spin-offs and crossovers. I could use a little help expanding the article since it is currently extremely dense and a bit jumbled with some sentence structures being extremely repetitive. I would like to be able to put this article into article space soon. Any and all help in writing the article would be appreciated, even a comment or two on the talk page would help. Please give it a read through, also please do not comment here since I do not have all of the series on my watch list. - LA @ 16:42, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] More precisely?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girlfriends#Trivia says:

"In the seventh seasons of Girlfriends and Gilmore Girls, the shows referenced each other. In Girlfriends, the character Joan Clayton mentions that she lives near a Gilmore Girl. In Gilmore Girls, Lorelai makes fun of Christopher's selection of saved TiVo programs, one of them being Girlfriends."

, while, in comparison, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilmore_Girls#In_popular_culture says:

"In the sixth season of Girlfriends and seventh season of Gilmore Girls, the shows referenced each other. In Girlfriends, the character Joan Clayton mentions that she lives near a Gilmore Girl. In Gilmore Girls, episode 7.5: The Great Stink, Lorelai makes fun of Christopher's selection of saved TiVo programs, one of them being Girlfriends."

As of the "Gilmore Girls"-article precisely pointing out in which of its episodes the mentioned reference to "Girlfriends" is, I'm wondering if it is also right in saying that the "Girlfriends"-episode, which refers to the "Gilmore Girls", is not of the seventh, but of the sixth season... Does anyone know definetly the number of the season it was in, or even the name of the exact episode (maybe remembering by the context as of reading the short-descriptions of the episodes via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Girlfriends_episodes )? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.62.20.218 (talk) 22:18, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

  • The saying took place in both seventh seasons of each series. The episode in Girlfriends isn't clear. Either someone will add it if they know the particular episode or will just have to wait until syndication or the release of the 6th season DVD. 70.241.21.56 (talk) 01:41, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
