Giovanni da Nola

Giovanni da Nola (or Giovanni Merliano) (1478-1559) was an Italian sculptor of the Renaissance, active in Naples.

He trained under Aniello del Fiore and Benedetto Maiano. Reputedly traveled to Rome to work briefly under Michelangelo. He returned to Naples where he worked, among many sculptures, in the tombs for the Sanseverino family. His pupils were Ferdinando Manlio and Cola dell'Amatrice.
