[edit] Army
Born to Italian parents, Moscardini joined the Italian Army as a machine gunner at the start of the Great War. While on duty on the Austrian front at Carporetto, the young Moscardini was met with serious injury; he got shrapnel in his elbow. [1]
[edit] Early career
Moscardini was sent to Sicily to recover from his injuries and while he was there, organised a football team. Once he recovered he moved to his family home in Barga where he was spotted by a scout from Lucchese.[2]
[edit] International and Latter Career
From Lucchese he moved onto Pisa then finally Genoa. It was while playing for Lucchese that he caught the attention of the Italian National Football Team boss. He made his debut for Italy against Switzerland in 1921. In total through the 1920s his robust "Scottish style" saw him play nine times for his country netting seven goals - an impressive strike rate even for a striker today. His final game came against France in 1925, Italy winning with an impressive 7-0 win. Moscardini wasn't making much money playing football so decided to return to Scotland to run the Lake Cafe in Prestwick. He did so up until his retirement in the 1960s.[3]
