Gina Thompson (born Lugenia Thompson to Edwad L. Sr. and Eugenia Thompson in Vineland, New Jersey, USA) is a hip hop vocalist. She began singing at an early age and was signed to her first recording contract with Mercury Records shortly after graduating high school. Her first CD entitled Nobody Does It Better (1996 Mercury Records) spawned one hit record entitled " The Things You Do" Badboy remix featuring Missy Elliot. Gina also recorded a song for the NBA @ 50 soundtrack, single entitled "You Bring The Sunshine" produced by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Her second album "If You Only Knew" was shelved, although her first single "Ya Di Ya" also featuring Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott reached #12 on the charts.
Nobody Does it Better is Gina Thompson's first album. The album was released in 1996, and had featured appearances by Missy Elliott, P. Diddy, Craig Mack, and others. Her first single off the album, "The Things You Do", reached number 15 on the charts and aired frequently on radio stations. A few months later, the album was released and peaked at number 36 on billboard charts. Her second single, "You Bring the Sunshine", reached number 53. Also in 1996, Gina sang back-up vocals for the song, "Cold Rock A Party" (MC Lyte featuring Missy Elliott and P. Diddy), the song was on MC's album, Bad as I Wanna B. Later in 1997, Gina was featured on another one of MC Lyte's album, "Seven & Seven", along with Missy Elliott and new singer in 1997, Mocha. Also, in 1998, Gina was featured with Mocha on the song, "Why Do Fools Fall in Love", of the soundtrack, Why Do Fools Fall in Love. In 1999, the singer was featured on Missy Elliott's second album, Da Real World.

[edit] If You Only Knew
If You Only Knew was Gina Thompson's second album. Her album was set to be released in October 1999. Gina, however, was signed to a new label, The Goldmind Inc., which is Missy Elliott's label. The album spun off two singles. Her first single, "Ya Di Ya" (featuring Missy Elliott), reached number 12 on the charts. The single became a music video and later had a remix. A few weeks later Gina's last single, "Caught Up" (featuring Beanie Sigel), was released, however the single failed to show on the charts. In October, Gina left Elektra Records and other labels, and didn't want to release the album due to personal issues, the album was shelved. However, many of the songs leaked to the internet, and so has the album.
[edit] Afterwards
After Gina left the Goldmind Inc., Elektra Records, and other labels, without releasing her 1999 album: If You Only Knew, Gina retired from music, and then later vanished out of sight. Today, Gina is currently not in the process of singing, or making a new album, but it's rumored that Gina might be working on a new comeback album, like many of the '90's R&B stars, such as: Torrey Carter, Nicole Wray, Mocha, Taral Hicks, and others.
