[edit] Rename
This article should probalby be renamed as it is about the teddy bear contoversy rather than the individual. The name I'd suggest is, "Sudan teddy bear controversy". --StuffOfInterest (talk) 14:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I was thinking of merging this with the article on the school since we already have a subsection of that discussing the Teddy Bear matter. What do you think of a merge? JoshuaZ (talk) 04:22, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

- I like the idea of a merge. I have a hard time picturing this incident as either making Gillian Gibbons notable, or justifying an entire controversy article. International media coverage just broke two days ago, the school will remain as an institution regardless of this incident. Gibbons and this controversy? Perhaps not so much. - You are lucky this page is still around!. I created the article 18 minutes after the news broke, and it was flagged for speedy deletion by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cobaltbluetony

and was gone 4 minutes later, despite 'holdon' being inserted by myself. If we do a merge, perhaps we should also redirect this page to whichever page it is merged to, and include the name 'Gillian Gibbons' on the page it is merged to so that people directed there understand why they have been redirected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Buckethed (talk • contribs) 10:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
There is a merge proposal out there to merge this article into Unity High School (Sudan). Being that the school article has been around far longer, and since the teddy bear controversy may end up a flash in the pan, I think this merge is a good idea. If the controversy does blow up then that content can be split back out to a separate article. I think that this article and Sudan teddy bear controversy should be redirects to the school article for now. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 13:22, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
The merge proposal has been carried out, although it may be that it gets split again in the next few weeks, if indeed the case blows up (which it seems to, as she has now been charged, rather than just investigated). Buckethed (talk) 16:04, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think we should have a separate article, school articles are fine for small controversies, eg Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe#In the news but this huge already. I suggest not creating an article on Ms Gibbons but one on the teddy bear controversy. We are not a crystal ball anyway and far from the evidence pointing to a flash in the pan it has developed into an international crisis with very strong feelings running on all sides.
