Is Giblerto Gil institutionally linked to them??

[edit] GAN passed

Bah...after having reviewed this one at peer review (and Laser brain too!), it's easily a GA. Some minor things I noticed;

  • "The style of Gilberto Gil's music" - keep naming consistent ("Gil")
  • "increasingly interested in black culture" - maybe it's me but I'm not sure what this refers to

But yeah, pretty darn good. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 10:20, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Collaboration

Having withdrawn the previous featured article candidacy for this article per the recommendation of Jbmurray (talk · contribs), I'd like to begin a collaboration process here to centralize improvement efforts before the next FAC. The main concerns noted in the recently archived FAC were prose comprehensiveness and quality. Acer (talk · contribs) is working on getting information from Portuguese-language resources, and I have some more information from my English references to add. I'd like to ask for some more specific feedback on what areas are lacking comprehensiveness to facilitate the process of adding my stuff and what Acer's got. Speaking to prose quality, essentially the best thing (IMHO) is just to get as many uninvolved copy editors and MoS experts to look it over as possible. (If only Tony did copy edits…oh, what a world that would be.) Perhaps another peer review would be useful? I welcome responses, if only to find out if anyone's watchlisted other than Jb… (: --Kakofonous (talk) 03:53, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

This sounds like a good plan. I absolutely have this article watchlisted, and propose to come help copy-edit (and recruit other FA-Team members if possible) once you guys have added sources and info, or indeed whenever you think it would be helpful. I would love to read up more about Gil myself--Brazilian culture is definitely something I should know more about--but doubt I have the time. So I look forward to learning from you guys!  :) --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 04:30, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
OK, great! --Kakofonous (talk) 00:36, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I'll take a look at this as well. It looks like a fairly strong article. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 20:11, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Here's something: The lead doesn't really summarize the whole article very comprehensively - the lead should contain a condensed version of essentially everything in the article. For example, it doesn't say anything about his style or influences, yet a lengthy section in the article talks about it. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 02:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Looks good. Sorry for the confusion in the lead. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 02:38, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Lucky to be online at the same time, eh? --Kakofonous (talk) 02:40, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry I've been neglectful recently. I've had my hands full elsewhere. Heh, K, I notice you've been semi-stalking me (in the nicest possible way) by editing many of the same articles I have... I definitely owe you something.

So I've just done some brief copy-editing. Much more could be done. But for now let me note that I think that the article's rather thin on Gil's musical career during the 1960s. Put it this way: the lead mentions Tropicalia and MPB, but the article doesn't. Nor does it talk about bossa nova. These really should be covered.

As I've said before, I would love to be able to help out with the research; this is a topic I should know more about. But I doubt I have time. But I will come back periodically for copy-editing and to offer whatever other comments I can. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 09:32, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
