[edit] Gilroy Garlic Train

Once every year, Caltrain operated a special limited-stop train from San Francisco to Gilroy that operated during the weekend of the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Christmas Hill Park. Shuttle Buses would shuttle passengers from the Caltrain station to the festival. This service was suspended when Caltrain began their CTX project in 2002, temporarily suspending all weekend train service on the route to upgrade tracks between San Francisco and San Jose stations for Baby Bullet service. When weekend service resumed in 2004, Caltrain opted to end the annual Garlic Train.

[edit] Santa Cruz Extension

Caltrain is looking into possibly expanding service from Gilroy south on a spur to Watsonville and Santa Cruz. Trains to Santa Cruz would terminate next to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk as the tracks run right next to the park. Watsonville service would be daily and Santa Cruz service would operate on weekends and daily during summer. The track purchase by JPBX (Caltrain) is being fought by residents who live in nearby Aptos. This service will introduce weekend service south of Tamien Station.
