Gillette Road Middle School is a middle school in Cicero, New York. It is part of North Syracuse Central School District. Gillette's mascot is the Jaguar. There are also 3 houses Every month the staff at Gillette recognize a student from each classroom for the Student Of the Month Award. There are 9 periods each day.
Gillette opened in 1963 as Gillette Road Junior High School, housing grades 7-9. Along with Roxboro Rd Jr. High in Mattydale (North Syracuse's other junior high), it became a 6-8 middle school with the opening of the 9-12 Cicero High School in 1968, with its name changing accordingly. In the fall of 1983, the current 5-7 grade configuration was put in place, as North Syracuse Central and Cicero High Schools were merged into the 10-12 Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Grades 8 and 9 began being housed at the former North Syracuse High School, now called North Syracuse Junior High.
From 1963 to 1983, Gillette boasted an award-winning instrumental music program, which used the name Gillette Blue Blades. Permission was obtained from The Gillette Company to use an arrangement of one of it's commercial jingles as the band's theme song. The various bands (concert, jazz, and marching, along with color guard, majorette and pompom groups) competed in many pageants throughout their history, concluding their final season as Grand Champions at the Seneca Fall Pageant of Bands in Seneca Falls, New York, and as Junior High School Grand Champions at the Gorham Pageant of Bands in Gorham, New York. While the school still has a concert band, the other performing groups disappeared after 8th grade was removed from the building. The band ceased using the Blue Blades name at that time as well.
