Gillett is a city in Oconto County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,256 at the 2000 census. The city is located within the Town of Gillett.

Gillett is located at 44°53′23″N, 88°18′23″W (44.889748, -88.306422)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.5 km²), of which, 1.4 square miles (3.5 km²) of it is land and 0.73% is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,256 people, 515 households, and 329 families residing in the city. The population density was 923.9 people per square mile (356.6/km²). There were 546 housing units at an average density of 401.6/sq mi (155.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.58% White, 0.40% Black or African American, 1.19% Native American, 1.04% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 0.88% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 515 households out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.1% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 89.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $36,667, and the median income for a family was $41,364. Males had a median income of $30,481 versus $19,875 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,737. About 7.6% of families and 9.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.8% of those under age 18 and 6.8% of those age 65 or over.
