[edit] History

In 1856, Michael Henry Gill, printer for Dublin University, purchased the publishing and bookselling business of James McGlashan, and the company was re-named McGlashan & Gill. In 1875, it was re-named M.H. Gill & Son. In 1968, the company became associated with the London based Macmillan Publishers (founded 1843) and Gill & Macmillan was established.

Gill & Macmillan mainly publishes educational books for school and college students. They also publish a range of general interest fiction and non-fiction titles. As well as handling its own published titles, Gill & Macmillan also handles the warehousing and distribution for a number of Irish-based publishers, including O'Brien Press.
