Presumably they mean he is both an esquire and a racing driver. His Dutch titel is Jonkheer, which translates roughly in esquire. 159.134.94.21 11:16, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

I take it to be something similar to "gentleman racer" which you occasionally see used. Not sure how it applies to van Lennep though. Bretonbanquet 12:35, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

8W describes van Lennep as a "Dutch aristocrat", so I think Bretonbanquet is right. I suggest we just remove the word "esquire" altogether. DH85868993 14:18, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

OK, but the phrase "Dutch former esquire racing driver" (which is what it used to say) doesn't make sense in English. Perhaps it should say "Gijsbert van Lennep Esquire ... is a Dutch former racing driver" or "Gijsbert van Lennep is a Dutch esquire and former racing driver" (similar to "Johnny Dumfries, is a Scottish peer and a former racing driver").
