Gideon Coe

Gideon Coe is a radio DJ, presenter, sportscaster, voice-over artist, and journalist. He was born on 22 September 1967.

Coe graduated from Coventry's Lanchester Polytechnic (now Coventry University) in 1989. He gained a 2.1 in Communication Studies. During his time there he played rhythm guitar with pop/punk bands Cradle Song and The Vendetta Men. He'd previously spent some time in The Strike It Out Gang and A-Bomb

He started his career working in local government in the Kent County Council, then took a position as a sports broadcaster at BT Clubcall.

Gideon joined BBC GLR in 1994 as the sportscaster on the Breakfast show, moving up to joint-presentation duties. He won a Sony Award in 1995 and another in 1999 for the Sports show.

He has presented shows on BBC Radio Five Live and BBC Radio 4 where he became a regular guest on Loose Ends. He has also done TV programmes and was presenter of Something For The Weekend on VH1 and a live show, The Live Six Show, on Sky One, voiceovers for Channel Five, as well as being a contributor to the The Guardian newspaper.

He joined BBC 6 Music in 2002, presenting the 10am-1pm weekday show from the station's launch, until 19 October 2007. He won his third Sony Award in 2003 for his work there presenting the mid-morning show. On 22 October 2007 his show was controversially moved to 10pm-1am, Mondays to Thursdays. The 10am-1pm slot was taken over by George Lamb.

Gideon is the son of accomplished Jazz musician Tony Coe.
