From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gibbonsdown, often known as 'gibby' is a housing estate situated in the north east area of Barry in The Vale of Glamorgan.

Over the years the area has picked up a bad reputation for drug-related[citation needed] vandalism and petty crime which in the last few years has visibly decreased.[citation needed] Whilst the area has been known for its problems, its also known for a good community spirit and as a place that is always looking to improve itself. Some of the notable successes of the area include the Holm View Community Leisure Centre, the Gibbonsdown Children Centre and also what used to be known as Gibbonsdown Junior School has been rebuilt and renamed Oakfield Primary School

Notable roads include Treharne Road (known to locals as "The Treharne"), Robins Lane and Skomer Road which connects the area to Wenvoe.
