[edit] Merge

This article kind of goes over the same ground as Galápagos tortoise and Aldabra Giant Tortoise. Now I'm not pretending to be an expert on giant tortoises, but I think something needs to be merged :-) Richard W.M. Jones 19:30, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Well I should not merge it with just the Galapagos Giant Tortoise, because there are more giant tortoise species in the world on different places. Several became recently extinct after human settelment, for example on Mauritius, Réunion and Rodrigues. Maybe it can be transformed into a disambiguation page (non-article pages containing no content, that only refer users to other Wikipedia pages). Pmaas 16:10, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Do not merge. The giant tortoises does not only exist in Galápagos. :) Mathias-S 18:34, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
strongly oppose merger...distinct species of giant tortoises exist on different continents. ....research underway to expand wikipedia text by as early as june 06 Anlace 02:26, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
I removed the merge proposal. Everyone is against, and simply because there are more species of giant tortoise than the Galapagos giant tortoise. Pmaas 13:50, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

the part about the average lifspan should be fixed. The (claimed) third longest living tortoise lived only[[]] 178 years. <EDJE> [[1]]
