Ghurki (Town)

Ghurki (Urdu: گھرکی ) is the name of a village on the outskirts of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It is located near the Wagah Border. Its coordinates are Lat (DMS) 33° 13' 15N and Long (DMS) 74° 35' 60E. Rising 212 meters above sea level, it falls under the largest constituency of Lahore. It has a population that counts to 3500 people. It has been used by the Pakistan Army to build trenches during Indo-Pak wars due to its proximity to the border, the inhabitants have been made to evacuate the village whenever there was a threat of a war. The inhabitants of Ghurki usually add Ghurki as their last name. Many famous politicians of Pakistan come from Ghurki they include
- Asghar Ghurki (MNA in 1985 from NA-88 and 1988 from NA-99)
- Arshad Ghurki (MNA in 1989, from NA-99, after his father's death)
- Khalid Javaid Ghurki (MNA in 1993 from NA-100 currently Town Nazim of Wagah Town, Lahore). A senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party,a close associate of co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
- Muhammad Iqbal Ghurki (Former Provincial Transport Minister)
- Samina Khalid Ghurki (MNA in 2002 and 2008, both times from NA-130)
- Farooq Yousuf Ghurki (currently Provincial Minister)

The Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital, in Ghurki, founded by Asghar Ghurki Trust, foundation stone laid by Abdul Sattar Edhi and Muhammad Iqbal Ghurki (Former Provincial Transport Minister) in 1991 is a 450 bedded hospital, situated at Jallo More, one and a half kilometer from the Lahore Medical and Dental College with which it is affiliated. The hospital is commissioned by the Ghurki Family Trust and planned by the Distinguished Architect Mr. Nayyer Dada, it caters Population of more than 1.2 Million people of the surrounding village. In addition to providing outpatient and inpatient facilities, it provides Intensive care services as well as eleven Operation theaters for general surgery ophthalmology and orthopedic surgery. Its current chairman is Mohsin Bilal Ghurki its board of Trustess include several businessmen from Ghurki such as Yousuf Amin, Muhammad Ashraf Ghurki, Arshad Ghurki and Khalid Ghurki. Also in the board is the leading orthopaedic surgeon of Pakistan Dr. Amir Azeez. Abdul Sattar Edhi is a volunteer of the hospital.
