[edit] Guy Hamilton
Robert Guy Hamilton (born 1952) is a British town planner, researcher and writer, particularly on popular music and local history.
He was born in Wallasey, Wirral, England, and attended Birkenhead School before studying geography at Nottingham University. There, he was a member of the University Challenge team, and graduated in 1973 with a first class honours degree. He began postgraduate research at the London School of Economics, but gave that up in 1975. He then moved to Exeter, Devon, working in the planning department of the county council. He obtained a postgraduate planning diploma at Bristol Polytechnic, and became a chartered town planner in 1981. After a period editing the local NALGO trade union branch newsletter, he became the secretary of the branch in 1983, managing its reorganisation and development and becoming active in the union at regional and national levels.
In 1989 he secured a new professional post with Avon County Council, based in Bristol, and moved there with his then partner. They relocated to Chepstow, Wales in 1993 and subsequently had two children before separating. With local government reorganisation in 1996, his job transferred to South Gloucestershire council, although he continued to be based in Bristol and mainly worked on strategic planning at the city-region and regional levels. He also acquired a management qualification of dubious value, and was chair of the RTPI in South West England in 2003. In 2006 he took early retirement and began a new career as a researcher, writer and editor, in the process devoting inordinate amounts of time to writing Wikipedia articles, also returning to work as a planning officer for a period with his local Monmouthshire council.
And, yes, he does know about WP:BIO and WP:V. Which is why this is here and not elsewhere.

The motto of the AWWDMBJAWGCAWAIFDSPBATDMTD is Est omnino difficile iudicare inclusionis meritum cuiusdam rei in encyclopædia cum ratio sciendi quid populi referat incerta sit, sed nihilominus aliquid encyclopædiam dedecet, which translates to, "it is generally difficult to judge the worthiness of a particular topic for inclusion in an encyclopedia considering that there is no certain way to know what interests people, but some topics nevertheless are not fit for an encyclopedia." This motto reflects the desire of these Wikipedians to be reluctant, but not entirely unwilling, to remove articles from Wikipedia. |
