Geyuan (Chinese: 葛源) is a town of Hengfeng County, Shangrao city, Jiangxi Province. The meaning of Geyuan is the headstream and kudzu. In the telophase of Sui Dynasty and the start of Tang Dynasty, the family with the surname of Su and the family with the surname of Feng settled at the source of the stream around which the kudzu flourished. Then Geyuan got its name. In Tang Zhenguan Year 3 (629), the family with the surname of Zheng moved here. Then the Cai family, Ye family, Luo family, Jin family sequently moved here. The population growed rapidly and the town prospered.
In December 1927, a rebellion against the governor was campaigned. In February Minguo year 20 (1931), The Northeast Jiangxi Revolution Committee, whose headquarters was Fang Zhimin, moved from Yiyang County to Geyuan, and the Soviet government of the Special Administration Region of the northeast Jiangxi province was set up. In November, it was renamed the Soviet capital of the northeast Jiangxi province. In the December of the next year, it upgraded to the soviet capital of the Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian provinces.
In November Minguo year 23 (1934), Geyuan was occupied by Kuomintang.
The speciality products are eatabe oil, tea, kudzu tea and kudzu powder.
