Get Close to My Love

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jennifer Holliday's formidable vocal talent and charisma is stifled by lackluster songswriting and overproduced tracks. This is the main reason Holliday's third album, "Get Close to My Love" just missed both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and The Billboard 200. The song structure of the tracks do not allow Holliday to fly, vocally. Her voice is confined to what the song will allow. The albums' best moments is on the first and only single, "Heart on the Line" which peaked at #48 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and the two songs at the latter half of the album, "Giving Up" and "I Never Thought I'd Fall in Love Again." The song also gained moderate Urban radio airplay. Aside from those songs, the other tracks such as "New At It" and the title track are decent, pleasant songs but nothing special. For such an immensely talent singer, Holliday deserves much better material to work with.
