[edit] Instructions

To request an article please add a heading such as this one: ;[[:de:Article name]]. The semicolon ensures that the article title is bolded, but does not add a separate subsection to the table of contents. Remember the first colon before the de in the article name, it's important. Then, add the following bullet points:

  • Corresponding English-language article: (Required) Enter the name of the corresponding English article, leaving it as a red link if necessary. If you are unsure how the German article name would translate to English, simply write None.
  • Status: (Required) (originally) "Unclaimed".
To take responsibility for the work, indicate "In progress <user> <date>".
If you're finished with what you can handle, but there is more to do: "Partially translated by <user> <date>".
One step past that might be "Translated, but review requested by <user> <date>".
If it's finished, mark it "Complete <user> <date>" and move it (as described below).
  • Originally Requested by: (Required) <user> <date> (use ~~~~)
  • Other notes: (Optional) Anything else you want to add. If you wish to co-request an article to be translated, please sign here

When writing a request on this page, you can also add {{translation request from German (old)}} on the talk page of the equivalent English article, if one exists. This produces the following message:

The German-language version of this article has been listed at Wikipedia:German-English translation requests. If you'd like to translate it, sign your name there, or, if you'd also like the article to be translated, sign your name there under "Supported:".

This template is obsolete. Click here to initiate a translation request as explained in Wikipedia:Translation

Wikipedia:Translation/German-English translation requests/biographies

Please do indicate in the references section of the newly created article that an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia was among your sources. For example, the references section of the article "Paragraph 175" begins, Much of the content of this article comes from the equivalent German-language Wikipedia article (retrieved September 30, 2004). The following references are cited by that German-language article..." Note that something like this (without that last sentence) would be in order even if the German-language article did not cite any references of its own. You may want to use the template {{German}} for this.

Also, please don't forget to add interwiki links all around.

When you complete work on an article, it would be polite to inform the original requester on his/her talk page, move this request to the talk page of the relevant article, and add an entry to Completed Translations. After about 30 days, even that can be moved to Wikipedia:Translation archive

Please add your request in alphabetical order within each section.

E.T.A. Hoffmann is one of Germany's great writers and also a big influence on America's Edgar Allan Poe. The German article is about 11 screens long Vs. only 2.5 for the English one. The German article seems to be a fully fledged article whereas the English one seems to be more a loose collection of facts with little structure.

The German article talks about his interviews and his notability for his positions on Islam and other issues, while the English version omits this information. Over at the English article talk page we have been discussing including some more sources such as the ones include in the German article but we lack the skills to complete the translation. It would probably be a very easy job for someone who reads the language. ॐ Metta Bubble puff 12:01, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

  • Status:
  • Originally Requested by: --Catherineyronwode 21:12, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Other notes: English information of this 15th century medieval German Jewish author is limited due to the only English translation of his work being from an incomplete 19th century French manuscript copy. German scholars are WAY ahead of English / American scholars on this matter, but until Sept. 2006, when an English translation of a German collated edition of the writing of Abraham is promised for publication, we in the English-speaking nations are working from the introduction to an 1897 English book known to be badly translated from an incomplete 3-volume French translation of the 4-volume German original. I attempted a Babelfish translation of the German Wikipedia entry, but it contained complex language and specialized terms that made mechanical translation unworkable for me.
No article in English; even worse, the English article is under Abramelin the Mage who is the informant who supplied Abraham of Worms with two manuscripts; the English article, until iI reformed it, treated Abraham of Worms as a fictional person (!). (The name may be a pseudonym, but the person was a real auhor.)
Full support from me, with my intention to create extensive linkage to the article from other articles in the larger grimoire / occult / theurgic / goetic /Jewish / Kabbalah areas just as soon as it is translated. If you have any questions, please leave a message on my talk page and i will get right back to you.
I'll have a crack at it. Text at User:Dr Zak/Abraham von Worms Dr Zak 18:42, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Remember that a "completed" translation can always be improved by people who do not speak the language it was translated from — if you enjoy copyediting, browse these articles and tidy up any unnatural-sounding language which might have slipped in.
