User:Gerry Ashton/General references
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a short sampling of Wikipedia:Good articles to see how many use general references. I define a general reference as a resource which appeares in the "References" section but to which no in-line citations are contained in the body of the article.
I went to a web site which generates random letter sequences, and obtained the following sequence (ignoring a case where 'b' appeared twice in a row):
b d j q a e y d c
I then went to three categories I feel comfortable with, Computing, Engineering, and Physics and astronomy, and selected the first article beginning with the random letters (striking each letter off the list once it was used). The results are below.
Computing
- Brute force attack Yes, only general references
- Delimiter No
Engineering
- Airborne Real-time Cueing Hyperspectral Enhanced Reconnaissance No
- Thomas Edison Yes (section is titled "Biographies")
Physics and astronomy
[edit] Conclusion
Three of six randomly chosen good articles from selected categories used general references.
