Lawrence Normie, Executive Director of GeronTech The Israeli Center for Assistive Technology & Aging. Normie has a B.Sc. in pure and applied physics from University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST) and M.Sc. in electrical and electronics engineering from University College London (UCL). Normie is a member of the UK Institute of Physics (registered as a Chartered Physicist) and is on the Chartered Scientist register of the UK Science Council. He is also registered with Association of Engineers in Israel. Before appointment as director of GeronTech, in June 1998, Normie was an independent industry and government consultant in technology transfer for nearly 8 years. Previous to that he worked in various engineering project management roles for the UK and Israeli defence industries. Normie consulted for five years to the Office of the Chief Scientist at Israeli Ministry of Industry and Commerce, where he was a reviewer of R&D grant proposals and inspector of high technology companies receiving government grants. Normie is a council member of the International Society of Gerontechnology (ISG) and a member of the Society’s publications committee. He is also a member of the Israel Society for Medical and Biological Engineering (ISMBE), the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (AAATE). He is an editorial board member of Technology and Disability Journal and associate editor of Gerontechnology Journal. Normie is the Israeli member of ISO’s Technical Committee on “Technical systems and aids for disabled or handicapped persons” (ISO/TC173).
