Gerrit Achterberg (May 20, 1905 in Langbroek - January 17, 1962 in Leusden) was a Dutch poet. His early poetry concerned a desire to be united with a beloved in death. In 1937, he shot and killed his landlady and he subsequently spent six years in a psychiatric hospital.
His most famous work is the sonnet sequence De ballade van de gasfitter (1953; English translation, A Tourist Does Golgotha, 1972).
