The German Sports Badge (German: Deutsches Sportabzeichen) is a decoration of the German Olympic Sports Federation DOSB, of the Federal Republic of Germany. It exists in a civilian and military version.

The decoration is awarded to all German people. Allied soldiers may also be awarded the badge. Any rank may be awarded and wear the badge as a ribbon.

The German Armed Forces Sports Badge is a must have in order to earned the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency, but the test must not be more than a one year old.

To earn the award one must complete the following requirements:

[edit] German Sports Test

a) timed sprint (100 or 1000 metre; time limit and distance determined by age category).
b) 2K/3K (1.85 miles) timed run (time and distance determined by age category).
c) Measured High-jump and Long-jump (measured height or distance determined by age category).
d) 200 meter timed swim in which any stroke is authorized (time and distance determined by age category).
e) Measured Shot-put or Stone-put (distance requirement determined by age category).

A part of these requirements can be replaced by exerecises in skiing or cycling (b), gymnastics (c, e).

The decoration has three grades: German Armed Forces Sports Badge in Bronze (Deutsches Sportabzeichen in Bronze) is awarded for completing the test the first and second time.

German Armed Forces Sports Badge in Silver (Deutsches Sportabzeichen in Silber) is awarded for completing all the tasks on the third and fourth time.

German Armed Forces Sports Badge in Gold (Deutsches Sportabzeichen in Gold) is awarded for completing all the tasks after the fifth time and so on. Special badges exist for repetitions of multiples of 5 (10, 15, 20 & ect.).

  • Badge=
    The badge is round, on its center it displays the letters DSB surrounded by a wreath of leaves. In 2007, the letters were replaced by DOSB.
  • Ribbon=
    The ribbon is red, green, black, yellow & blue with the badge in the center.
