Germán Silva, champion 1994-1995 NY City Marathon

German Silva Martinez (January 9, 1968) was born in Zacatlan, Puebla (Mexico). His father was Agapito Silva and his mother is Aurora Martinez. Number ten out of a family of 13 brothers and sisters, German Silva grew up in Tecomate, Veracruz. In 1994 and 1995 he won the New York City marathon. He won the silver medal in the World Championships Half Marathon in Oslo 1994. Already in the Olympic Games of Barcelona 1992 he was a 10.000 mts. finalist arriving in 6th place. In 1996 he repeated this position in the marathon of the Olympic Games of Atlanta. He was a 10.000 mts. finalist in the World Championships of Stuttgart (1993)and Gotenborg (1995) en in the Goodwill Games of New York he was fourth in the 10.000 mts. Nowadays, German Silva has his own company dedicated to the organization of athletics events (incl. international track and field events in Mexico City, Monterrey, Hermosillo and Xalapa), Global Sports Events and Communication, representing athletes like Ana Guevara and Madai Perez. He's the successfull coach of Madai Perez (Lat. American best marathoner and Mexican record-holder 2:22:59 in the marathon). As well he's owner of the brand 'German Silva Coaching', training recreational runners ([www.germansilva.com]with offices in Metepec, Mexico City and San Luis Potosi. He's ambassador of the 21 K Texel in The Netherlands since 2007 and of the Fundacion Mazahua in Mexico. He is co-host for Telemundo broadcasting the Los Angeles marathon, and during the Olympic Games of Athens 2004.
