This Latin-American beauty has been pursuing her dream of becoming a musician, songwriter and recording artist since she was a child growing up on Margarita Island, Venezuela. Born to an Italian father and a Venezuelan mother, Gerina grew up in a culturally diverse environment that has very much influenced her musical identity. She was exposed to many contrasting musical styles while becoming fluent in Spanish, Italian and English. Her multi-cultural influences have resulted in this inspiring lyricist formulating a new musical genre mixing pop and rock with a hint of country and a splash of Latin flavor.
When Gerina was nine years old she appeared on “In Search of a Young Star”, the Venezuelan version of Star Search, and remained the champion on the show for five consecutive weeks. Gerina also appeared in a variety of television commercials airing in Venezuela and the US for a number of companies including Colgate, Samba Candy and Cotton Candy Clothing.
When Gerina was 16 she left her home and family and moved to the United States to learn English, study the music business and to work on her songwriting skills. After completing her studies at St. Petersburg Junior College, Gerina moved to Miami and attended Miami Dade Community College where she received degrees in International Business Administration and Music Business. After graduation, she began working with such musical greats as Jon Secada, Steve Morales, Marty Cintron, Guy Roache and others. Gerina is already an accomplished songwriter having co-written “Closer to You” with Steve Morales in 2002. Thalia released this song on her 2002 self-titled album and released the Spanish version, “Cerca De Ti” in 2004. “Cerca De Ti” went to #1 on the Latin Billboard Charts and Gerina was honored at the 2005 BMI Latin Awards for her songwriting skills.
In 2003, Gerina moved to Las Vegas to strengthen her live performance skills. She performed as the lead singer of a band featured at the Bellagio for over two years. Her enthusiasm and passion captivates her audiences and puts her show in high demand. She has developed many fans from around the world who have seen her live performances.
Gerina is now ready to move to the next phase of her career. Gerina released her first album in July of 2006 on the Aim High Records label. The album features music written by Gerina demonstrating the diverse influences that make Gerina such a distinctive talent. Gerina collaborated with producer Chris DeStefano for several of the songs written for this album bring an added dimension to the music. On this new album, Gerina’s writing skills will take the listener through a roller coaster of emotions in both English and Spanish. Gerina has begun a US tour to support this release while continuing to write exciting new music for future release.
