The Russian Federation State Institute of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov (Всероссийский государственный институт кинематографии имени С.А.Герасимова), former All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (Всесоюзный государственный институт кинематографии), abbreviated as VGIK, is the world's oldest educational institution in Cinematography, founded by Vladimir Gardin in 1919. The institute is located in Moscow, Russia. Sergei Eisenstein, Vsevolod Pudovkin, and Aleksey Batalov were among its most distinguished professors. In 1986 it was named after Russian film director and actor Sergei Gerasimov. It is one of the few film schools to focus its teaching methods through the production of 35mm films.

VGIK was the foremost film school in the Soviet Union and remains one of the world's most respected film institutions. Its almuni include many prominent directors, many of them non-Russian (the school began accepting foreign students in the middle of the 20th century).
