[edit] Cross-space redirects
Can I convince you to put {{db|Created by mistake}} on the wiki-voter shortcut? If I nominate this on RfD it will explode. A cross-namespace redirect to something in userspace is madness. - brenneman {L} 00:23, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- I just copied a the vandalproof thing like WP:VPRF, so that has to be deleted too if WP:WKV is. I think WP: namespace can be redirected anywhere, because you could just redirect it to Wikipedia:Wikivoter and redirect that to userspace which would cause double redirects just for the purpose of not redirecting WP: to userspace. GeorgeMoney (talk) 00:28, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, first let us disabuse ourselves of the notion that "since Foo exists we canot delete bar." That's simply not true. Secondly, the idea that a double redirect would somehow make it "ok" appears to misunderstand both the problems with double redirects and cross namespace redirects. I take this to mean that you're not going to ask for it to be deleted, then? - brenneman {L} 00:32, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- And it's a bit disingenuous to say that you "just copied" the other shortcut when you made that one as well. - brenneman {L} 00:33, 22 August 2006
- Well, I might have created WP:VPRF but I copied WP:VandalProof. I Really don't think it should be deleted so if you really wanted it deleted you could take it to rfd and see what many people think. GeorgeMoney (talk) 00:37, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ook. Sorry to have sunk the boot in there, than, my mistake about the creation. I may have taken double my dosage of cranky this morning by accident, and there was no reason to give you a serve over this. I have nominated all three for deletion, though, and if I'm nasty again just give me a slap. - brenneman {L} 00:53, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userbox Alignment
Hi!
Where refered this question to you and thought that you would more knowledgeable at this.
I was just wondering (because you're the first person I thought of that would know this), Is it possible to align a userbox at the top of the page in the centre? I can do it Left and Right, but not Centre. Thanx!
Tyson Moore 22:13, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again.
- Yes, that worked, and, is it also possible to make them all lign up. On my redesign (attempt) there are big :blank spaces to the left and right of the table you made. Or, should I use something like Nvu and make 3 tables and just type all the :{{subst: userboxname}} into the tables as text, then make that my page on wikipedia? I think that might be easier...
- Thanks Tyson Moore 23:06, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi George! I am asking you this question because I have been referred to you by Kylu. You have a very big and impressive css page that can do a lot of cool stuff. [edit] Greetings
Hi there.I don't really know what to say. It's hard for me and I assume it must be complicated for all the people in my situation to try a new language out. You see, I've been studying English language since 1995 but, for some reason, I still keep my doubts on the subject. I joined Wikipedia on July 26, 2006 —the Spanish version — and as for a sudden I became deeply acquainted with the English one. I cannot trust myself to do it better, but I would like to; believe me when I say that is my priority. Up to now I've written an average of 30 articles in the Spanish Wikipedia, most of which are based on English and American literature authors and movements. My best ones for so far are es:Frederick Douglass and es:William Shakespeare. On the same way I wrote one article for this wikipedia, originally a translation from Spanish into English. I also added further information to a geography stub. My intention is to help and take part of this wonderful experience, but to do that I may need a hand. Can we work together? Do you want to keep in touch with me? I'm on the web almost all the time. If I'm not here I'm there, always fooling around. Thanks for reading my terrible message. God save me, lol. --Gustavo86 20:24, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox Template
I'm having troubles with this Template:Infobox DCAU character I created. It's creating about 4 blank spaces between the section header and the text and the infobox. Example: Black Manta#Other media#Justice League--The Judge 22:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Wow, thanks!! you're the man! hahahah. I worked with that for about 10 hours, I could totally use a break. The hystory section might help you, the infobox started doing that at some point when I was editing it. I created it using the Character template, ading some elements of the superherobox.--The Judge 01:13, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
The Template page looks great. It's nice to see it so neat now! It still works a little weird on the articles featuring it (almost at the bottom of the Green Arrow, Supergirl, Black Manta and Joker articles, for example), making space between the section header and the first paragraph and it. But it's not so bad now. How did you fixed it, anyways?--The Judge 01:22, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Annoying guy
I've got this annoying guy that is edit warring on me without further explanations than one small comment in the edit summary that doesn't quote any wikipedia guideline (actually I made the changes to fit the guidelines). He says there can't be 2 infoboxes in an article, but the info in it is 100% different and doesn't actualli repeat anything.
He already broke the 3RR, and not wishing to risk being blocked too, I won't rv him a third time.
The name of the guy is CovenantD and he is really annoying the capital H out of me, by making the article less informative, specally since my the nature of his edits are totally irespectful and easy to do, while I had to do a lot of researching and sourcing.
This is the confict, and the article in question is Clock King.
Thanks for your time, I hate to bother you like that.--The Judge 04:59, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
He rv your edit :S, but don't worry fortunatelly/unfortunatelly that qualigies that user to a report on the Admins notice board. The fact that there could be people like that really puts me down. Like, what are his motifs? I noticed he seems to be interested in comics, but he seems to be making sure those articles are as less informative ans surced as posible... Why is he bothering, why does he take the time? I mean, I'm sure he can reseach and add facts to an article he likes better instead of choping off the ones he doesn't like. To me it's really hard to understand how such mentality exists.--The Judge 01:30, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why doesn't auto archive work?
Could you explain why User:GeorgeMoney/UserScripts/archive is causing me problems? I installed it at User:Will Pittenger/monobook.js, but that disabled WP:POPUPS and wikEd. So I commented it out. I found the instructions a little confusing as I didn't understand what changes to make. It looked like I needed to replace your user name with mine. But I could be wrong. -Will Pittenger 04:59, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, that did not help. Must be something else. Are you using the same other scripts I have installed? Did I install your code correctly? -Will Pittenger 07:09, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Which scripts should be redone? Also, you are no longer disabling other scripts. -Will Pittenger 02:48, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have succesfully archived my talk page. However, please examine this history link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Will_Pittenger/Archive_Indexer&oldid=88584655. It seems that my talk indexer was included into the archive page twice. Only once is needed. Could that be simply that the page already existed? -Will Pittenger 03:42, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Can you help at another Wiki with CSS?
Can you help at Wikia:ChristianMusic? I have a user there who will need some CSS help in order to complete a task I assigned him. I can edit the file, but I would not know what to put in there. For more information, read Wikia:ChristianMusic:User talk:Jesussaves#Credits formatting system needed and Wikia:ChristianMusic:Talk:Sandbox/Credits/.
I have no idea when he will need help. At this point, I think he is sitting back and scratching his head on the problem. I have repeatedly told him to to rush it. Rather, I need the whole thing thought through. -Will Pittenger 03:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- The CSS problem has nothing to do with infoboxes. We specifically don't want infoboxes for this role because of the amount of stuff that would be in the infoboxes compared to the amount outside the infobox. An article with only infoboxes would have many problems. Yet that is all we would be left with. -Will Pittenger 08:16, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] How to look up the current user?
Would you happen to know if there is a template or magic word that evalutates to the name of the current or not? If I am the current user, I would like my archive indexer to recognize that and add a link to the archive manager. -Will Pittenger 03:59, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Most unfortunate. Having some sort of link would be handy. How about a tab on the talk page or a toolbox item? -Will Pittenger 08:18, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
wgUserName isn't much help as I have no JS experience. The closest I can come is a little non-professional C#.NET experience. Actually, I think you should add the archive option to User:GeorgeMoney/UserScripts/archive -Will Pittenger 03:22, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wishlist for Archiving
In addition to what I mentioned above (an Archive link in the toolbox), I would like to see your archive system get more intelligent. User:Werdnabot seems to do a good job. Perhaps, you could borrow some code or logic.
- Limit archived conversations to only those that have not been updated in a length of time that would be an option. In addition to the bot I mentioned above, there is a script that localizes times in signatures. Clearly they have a way to see sigs and the dates within. Perhaps you could borrow that code too.
- Put an option in the code to delete unsigned posts. I say that as some users say they don't archive them.
- Add option to auto-archive on logout. Might require an additional module.
-Will Pittenger 05:07, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
- BTW: Unless you can archive only older conversations, please don't auto-archive without asking the user for permission. I would be pretrefied to allow automatic archiving if it always archived everything.
- Also, are you able to detect users logging out when they simply close the browser tab or window and allow their cookies to expire. Even with the window open the cookies expire in something like one hour. -Will Pittenger 20:47, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
So what happens when a cookie simply expires with at least one Wikipedia window/tab still open? -Will Pittenger 22:02, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- You appear to have mixed up the conversations. Above, I was talking about WP cookies, not yours. -Will Pittenger 22:22, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
In my experience, they expire in one hour if not refreshed by loading a new page. I use a shared computer and don't use remember me. Will (Talk - contribs) 22:30, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Clerk for Requests for Checkuser
Hey GeorgeMoney,
I am messaging you to ask whether you would be interested in reassuming your role as a Request for Checkuser clerk. Currently, the clerk duties are being shared among three experienced clerks, and we have added two new clerks, who are currently in the learning stage. We are currently experiencing backlogs and long waiting times for some actions to occur.
As you are currently listed under "inactive" on our clerk roster, we're asking that if you are willing to resume these clerk activities, please leave a message on my user talk page (quick link). A number of things have changed, so we reccommend re-reading Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks/Guide. The guide is currently being rewritten, but the new and updated version should be available by 00:00 December 12, 2006 (UTC) at the latest.
If you aren't interested in being a checkuser clerk any longer, we accept your decision and thank you for your service; it would be greatly appreciated if you'd leave me a note that you're no longer interested. If you would like to resume your role in the future, but can't do so now, please mention so on my talk page, and I'll note this on our clerk register.
Thanks for your cooperation,
Daniel.Bryant [ T · C ], Head Clerk, for Essjay (talk), 05:11, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Auto Welcome script
I just noticed and installed your Auto Welcome script. (See User:Will Pittenger/monobook.js#User:GeorgeMoney/UserScripts/autowelcome. You might have to manually purge the page to get the section link to work.)
Unfortunately, it activated any time I edited any page. Even when I attempted to disable the script, it ran. So I ended up with "Welcome" in my JS page. It was completely willing to replace whatever was on that page with Welcome.
Also, is it smart enough to switch between {{welcome}} and {{welcomeip}}? Will (Talk - contribs) 04:27, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Regarding the new version you just mentioned, I might be interested. However, I was content with the auto welcome as it was -- provided it only activated for empty User Talk links. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:22, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
No. While I did describe that in the main scripts page, what I described as happening when I tested your existing AutoWelcome script works -- provided it only activated for empty User Talk links. Supposedly that script doesn't activate until a tab is clicked. However, what I saw today was the script was always adding {{welcome}} to every page you edit. No tab required. Restrict that to empty User Talk pages, and you might get it to work. As such, you would save room in the watchlist and have it work when I link to something like User Talk:No User Here. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:30, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see that as a concern. However, what you described is better than nothing and better than the bug I encountered. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:42, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
I almost forgot: The script wasn't signing its posts. ~~~~ will do the job. Will (Talk - contribs) 07:31, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- I can confirm the tab shows up, but I have yet to test it. Also the flashing [welcome] appears on this page in the post I have above. However, it was omitted from My Watchlist and Recent Changes. I can confirm that editing a page no longer causes the script to activate without permission. I plan to eat dinner and then test some more.
- Also, how smart is it? Will it choose correctly between {{welcome}} and {{welcomeip}}? Will (Talk - contribs) 01:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Requiring users to copy the code is bad as it prevents easy upgrades. I think you should find a way switch to include_module. I thought I could overwrite the options you set with my own code after the module inclusion like I did with Popups and wikEd. But it had no effect.
I do think that Special: should be included. However, if you are unsure, make all namespaces options that can be turned on or off individually. Can you detect which namespaces are out there at runtime? For instance, in the Christian Music wiki at Wikia.com, I was looking at adding special namespaces for specialized functions. The talk pages there would have signatures. Some of those would have redlinked talk links.
Also, what about users that have empty talk pages, but omit the talk page from their sig? That is how MediaWiki configures all signatures by default. (You have to turn Raw Signatures on to get what I use.) So if the sig is simply "User:No User Here", I should get a [welcome] by it. Please note, that the user in question might have a user page. That is irelevant. We are only checking if they have a user talk page, even if that link is missing. One cleavet: Suppose both User Page and User Talk Page links are provided for the same user. I would suggest having "[welcome]" in only location per user per page. In the other locations where links to that user's user page and/or user talk page occur, put a small icon there. That icon might be a stylized W (for welcome).
Also, [welcome] was omited from the preview screen. Will (Talk - contribs) 04:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'll upgrade shortly.
-
- It now also adds the link to red link userpages. I guess to see if the talk page already exists you could hover over the link with popups which seems to work for me.
- I should note that could only cause more confusion. I think if you are going to include such a feature, you should include the test for the user talk page in the code. Too many users will have one page and not the other. I have seen very few users (out of the total number out there) will have neither.
-
- if it detects the same talk link as a previous user page link, there is no (easy) way to just turn it into a "[w]" or something link.
- Actually, what I thought you would implement was a list of user names that you added full welcome links to. If you make that list a hash table (or whatever JS calls hash tables, C++/MFC calls them "maps"), you should get decent performance out of that code.
- On a new note, what happens when a user was already welcomed? A few minutes ago, I clicked on a red talk link and proceded to use the new Welcome tab to welcome the user. However, by the time the edit page that activates the welcome script came up, the page was no longer empty. In that short amount of time that it took me to click the tab and for the new page to load, someone had already entered a template that added a section.
- In this case, the welcome template could have gone above the older template. However, I think your script, if it can, should check for the word "Welcome" as the first non-whitespace in the existing page. If it finds it, it tells the user that the account in question already has a welcome present. If it finds no welcome on a non-blank page, it asks the user if welcome should be added to the page anyway. If the user says Yes, put the welcome template up top, but don't autosave. That lets the user manually create a section header for the existing code if required.
Sounds like that list part might be the only one you can do. Still, I think you will find many users confused by the other two. You might want a FAQ section on AutoWelcome to help deal with that. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:21, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- I just tested the new [welcome] link from my watchlist. The script both passed and failed. It did well until it ask if I wanted to add my welcome to a non-blank page. I pressed Cancel -- and it ALWAYS added the template name.
- Before that test, I welcomed something like 30-40 users with the welcome tab. That was proving to be very reliable.
[edit] Speedy Deletion provides nothing unique
I decided not to use your Speedy Deletion script until it can list with a combobox common templates. Select other, and a box appears that would be comparable to Easy Db's DB (CSD) tab. Select Reason and it would ask for a text reason (for use with {{db}}).
BTW: It might make sense to have the script confirm that the user hit Cancel when you are debugging the script, but normal users will hate it.

[edit] Popup conflict
I found a conflict with popups. From my watchlist, if I click a [welcome] link, I commonly get a popup that won't go away unless I refresh the watchlist page. I don't know if it should be considered your bug or Lupin's. Will (Talk - contribs) 02:50, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. I will list it there. I do middle click the [welcome] link. That causes Firefox (1.5.0.8) to open the link in a new background tab. Could that be relevant? Will (Talk - contribs) 03:42, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
What did you end up concluding about OnMouseUp? Will (Talk - contribs) 05:50, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
i would go for that reason instead of "because they were added by the script instead of being in the html"
I don't follow you. I don't understand the terminology. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:57, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
We should have thought of this when I first brought this problem up. Suppose Lupin modifies the Popup code to ignore [welcome] links. They have a unique URL. Will (Talk - contribs) 20:42, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- So can that change be made? The only drawback that I have thought of is that when the talk link isn't shown and [welcome] was added to the user page link, I sometimes use the [welcome] link with popups to detect that the page isn't blank. Gain one, lose one. Will (Talk - contribs) 21:23, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Lupin has provided a work around that lets you hide the popups with a key press. I need three modifiers with the code he provided. But other than that, it works. I suggest adding it to both your Auto-Welcome instructions and Lupin's WP:POPUP. The code is at User talk:Lupin#Popups that won't go away. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:36, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Forget the work around. Some has added a real fix. Now when I middle-click a [welcome] link, the popup immediately vanishes. Will (Talk - contribs) 04:10, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Article Copyright
Hi,
I was trying to post an article on Wikipedia, but it was deleted for copyright reasons after it was detected on a differetnt website. However, I hold the copyright on the text and the images. Can you please let me know how can I use the text and an image that are also available on that webiste? The site is [1], I want to post the article about the artist Dessy Dobreava on Wikipedia.org. Lieke I said I have posted the article Dessy Dobreva, but it was deleted, so I am not sure what I did wrong and what I need to do to prevent that happening again. Thank you.
This a copy of the messages that I have recived on mytalk after the article was deleted.
Image:Dessy_Dobreva_-_Cosmetical_Calender_Bulgarian_magazine%2C_photo_by_Dilian_Markov_.jpg listed for deletion Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Dessy_Dobreva_-_Cosmetical_Calender_Bulgarian_magazine,_photo_by_Dilian_Markov_.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. [edit] The Dessy Dobreva article Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Dessy Dobreva article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
Feel free to re-submit a new version of the article. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

[edit] New AutoWelcome Bug: 500 links
AutoWelcome has developed a new bug. Everytime it loads a page, it complains that it has over 500 links. This is true even if I am editing a blank page. It is also true if I clicked a [Welcome] link to open the page that triggered the warning. It doesn't happen if I use the Welcome tab.
Furthermore, I was accidently closing my watchlist tab with AutoWelcome. I had used [Welcome] to welcome an user. When the edit page came up, it warned me that I had over 500 links. I pressed OK. I think that is when the tab with My Watchlist vanished. The My Watchlist tab was the only tab with more than a handful of links.
Wishlist item: Please make the warning that is causing this problem customizable. I think 500 links is way too low. I am seeing way too many pages that would trigger this warning -- even it were working correctly. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:00, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- What did you find about the bug parts of this post? Will (Talk - contribs) 06:12, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Then I have to report a new bug that I had thought was related to the problem above. The [welcome] links are missing and won't come back. It is as though I said to cancel scanning the links in the new box.
BTW: I suggest changing the buttons in that new warning dialog to Yes and No. Then change the question to match. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Will Pittenger (talk • contribs)
No it wasn't. The [welcome] links are NEVER showing up on the My Watchlist page. Could something be corrupting your internal flag? (Namely the new flag you added for when the user hits cancel after being warned about the number of links.) Will (Talk - contribs) 05:32, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't add the second option because I thought you defaulted it to true for reverse compatibility reasons. Could you have failed to default it? (Beginners' error, I know. But we all make that mistake.) I don't know how JS handles uninitialized variables. C assumes you know what you are doing. Most other languages either complain or implicitly initialize them.
- I bring the uninitialized part up because only the My Watchlist page doesn't have [welcome] links. All other pages get them. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:48, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Ok. I'll add it. Let you know shortly if it fixes the problem. I thought you could init the variable when you declared it. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:18, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- This appears to be fixed.
[edit] Thanks for the tips
Thanks for the info for the anchor parsing. I found {{anchorencode:foobar}} which does everything accept removing wikicode. [edit] Hi, George...
I was accidentally automatically logged in and noticed the new messages.
My reason for leaving is simply that I don't like where Wikipedia is going. Whereas it used to intrigue me, now I find myself disappointed at everyday activities here. It's depressing. Bickering over the smallest details, taking weeks just to have any action taken with trolls...
Not that I'm saying you should leave.
I'm young, George, perhaps too young for this. Younger than ninety nine percent of other Wikipedians, even. I'm easily hurt by people and simple words and phrases. And I've been hurt here far too many times lately to be able to call it me home...
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for everything. You helped me so much with everything. Good luck. --Light of Shadow 01:13, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Toolbox links
Any chance of getting a toolbox link to archive the talk page? It would help a lot. Will (Talk - contribs) 07:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- I don't understand the context of the code you sent. Do you have the right toolbox? Your code uses images. The toolbox on every sidebar is text links only. [edit] Sidebar as a menu bar with drop menus
Please look at Wikia:Starwars:User:Sikon. See what happens to the sidebar? I would like to see the same thing for Wikipedia. I would make only two changes (other than the lack of ads). First,I would keep the Account links (what Sikon puts into the User menu) where they would normally appear on the right end of the top line. Second, I think the menu bar needs to be fixed (like it was a seperate frame.
Any ideas? Will (Talk - contribs) 04:28, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. Let me know what you come up with. I may be able to help test it. :) Will (Talk - contribs) 07:19, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- If it is easier, could the sidebar disappear to the left? Then it could move back if you hover over the border. The only conflicts would be auto-hide toolbars (like the Windows taskbar) and a Firefox tool that auto-hides the Firefox sidebar. Will (Talk - contribs) 06:42, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Archive system shouldn't archive header
I have noticed that the archive tool is archiving my talk page header with the conversations. Can this be fixed? See this edit where I corrected the problem. Do I have it configured wrong? Will (Talk - contribs) 05:04, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- I just archived again. This time, the archive tool did not copy the talk page header. But before you rejoice, the archive page was new. When the tool was done, no header was present. I had to add that myself. Do I need a settings change? Will (Talk - contribs) 07:22, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
I have the settings shown below.
//The header to put on top of all archives (if the archive is in 'w' mode (modes explained below)) var archiveheader = '{{User:Will Pittenger/Archive Indexer}}'; //Your talk page header for to use when archiving. Remember to keep the '; //Your talk page archive page. Insert "NUMBER" where the number of archive you are on goes var archiveurl = "User_talk:Will Pittenger/Archive NUMBER"; //The mode to archive your talk page. Making this value 'a' will make the script add your archive to the bottom of the current archive. Making it 'w' will totally erase the contents of the current archive (usually you should set the current archive value to a new archive to avoid erasing old archives, where as in append mode (a), you should set it to your current archive to append the contents) var archivemode = 'a';
Will (Talk - contribs) 02:56, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I added the noinclude as suggested. However, I did not understand which questions you were answering as mine weren't numbered. Also, I used 'a' because I didn't want the archive page erased. That helps minimize how often I need to update my archive template. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:43, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- I archived again. This time it archived the header -- after stripping off the <noinclude>. Will (Talk - contribs) 22:35, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] How do you create collapsible sections?
Is it simple to do collapsible sections like you have in your user page? If so, I was thinking about putting whats needed into a template that I would host via my collection at User:Will Pittenger/templates.
BTW: My new navigation bar at the top of my page needs an icon for the template collection. I have been looking at some tools. However, since the word tools implies more than just templates, I would prefer something broader. Will (Talk - contribs) 07:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- I stumbled on the class earlier this afternoon. Until then, I could not figure out what was going on. I was expecting to find some JS somewhere. The source I found lists several existing templates. They listed below. Could you tell me what you think of them? Should they be substed? How well are they documented?
- {{hidden}}
- {{hidden begin}}
- {{hidden end}}
- {{afd}} (This "afd" doesn't stand for "Articles for Deletion"?)
- {{afdx}}
- {{Dynamic navigation box}}
- {{Dynamic navigation box with image}}
Will (Talk - contribs) 05:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- I just tried the code you sent (rather than the templates). Some problems as listed below.
- First, the your code does not respect the user box column. How do I tell it to not use that space?
- Second, the section is collapsed by default, but the show/hide link starts out at "Hide". I have to click it twice to show it.
- Third, the section links don't work when the section is collapsed. Is there a way to expand the section when a section link is used?
- Fourth, can I use an icon for the Show/Hide link?
- Fifth, your comment says to leave the "display:none" in. However, it works better without it. The default state is expanded, but at least the Show/Hide link now reflects the correct state. (I did want some sections to default to expanded anyway.)
- My test is at User:Will Pittenger:Map of My User Space Will (Talk - contribs) 09:05, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
At this point, I see no reason to continue with the class=navframe system. If you know of another way to get the same type of look, please let me know. As is, it's not worth it. I might use it to collapse my user box groups, but that's it. Will (Talk - contribs) 02:10, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- And presumably you can't write your own version. Are you able to fix the JS bugs in what we have now? Will (Talk - contribs) 02:14, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
BTW: The reason I was confused as to what you were answering was that I had the wrong topic. You had been talking about Archiving elsewhere in that post. When your subject is simply "RE:", please don't be surprised if I (and probably others) get confused. Will (Talk - contribs) 02:16, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Also, I have not participated in XfD's recently, due to my inactivity, and have not shown the community how I deal in XfD's. [edit] Overriding the welcome message with popups
Is there a way for popups to display extra items with the Auto Welcome script is installed and the popup is for a [WELCOME] link?
I was thinking a Welcome This User submenu of the Action menu in a popup could have a variety of items that would change the welcome message to something like {{welcomespam}}. That might save me from entering two messages. Your settings would have two entries for each custom item. (IP and non-IP.) If the IP entry is omitted, the template provided should be assumed as capable of differentiating between the two types of accounts on its own. Will (Talk - contribs) 04:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

- No problemo. I might lose it in all of my other Wikipedia stuff, but I'll check the image everyday, that's for sure. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 11:27, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] barnstar

A belated thank you for your scripting help with the cloak requests system - it has made my work as group contact significantly simpler. I now receive very few incorrect requests and I'm sure that your code accounts for a good portion of that. So, I present you with a shiny new barnstar :) —Xyrael / 21:34, 5 April 2007 (UTC) |
