[edit] American
I noticed that you recently added a link to American here. American is a disambiguation page as the phrase has many uses including a person from the Americas or the United States. In the future, could you link the term to one of the articles listed on the American disambiguation term, that would be great. As an example, if you're linking to something related to the United States, you would input [[United States|American]]. Thanks! --Bobblehead 07:32, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WWC Women's Championship
Thanks for the info. I was going by what the other websites said. If the title's listed as active by the WWC itself, then it's active. I'll put it up with the active titles and change it to being vacant since March 1, 1999. Thanks again.-- FPAtl (holla) 01:03, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tuba (mythology)
An article that you have been involved in editing, Tuba (mythology), has been listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tuba (mythology). Please look there to see why this is, if you are interested in whether it should be deleted. Thank you. --Tubezone 02:09, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Eagle Creek (Burnaby)
Great job, Geoffg. I'm glad someone here can be so very knowledgeable about Burnaby. - Flying Penguin
Thanks. I also write about Burnaby from my own experience. I think we have set a pretty good standard for similar articles. Take care, - Flying Penguin
[edit] Championships
I don't particularly agree since certain wrestling promotions, including Florida, Georgia, Central States, etc. all operated under the rules of the National Wrestling Alliance. When the articles started adopting placing the various championships in categories of world, national and regional, it seemed the right thing. After all, the promotions were regional as were most of their titles. But, whichever. Odin's Beard 01:22, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] rating on article
Thanks for taking a look at and rating the revamped Power Slam article. I'll be keeping an eye on it and read through the Wikiproject improvement guides to see what else can be done. I was quite satisfied with the rating though, not bad for a beginner! Thanks again. Suriel1981 07:24, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Note about photo request in Biography tag
It's not capped at all (I'm not sure if you knew that or not). I just wanted to point that out, I noticed you added it to Cathy Corino but it didnt show up because it was Yes. RobJ1981 08:32, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 1593 in music
Well, it did look like a pretty barren year in music, but maybe it's in everybody's best interest to put an expand tag on it. :) BlackBear 00:56, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Years in music
Hey, thanks for starting those years in music! I had begun to make those a while back (1570/1/2/3, and I think 1590 were ones I did). They're harder work than you think, at first: but if you have access to the online Grove you can usually search for the date and come up with some good stuff. Cheers! Antandrus (talk) 04:02, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Apology and question about Years in music
Hi, Geoffg. Nice to meet you. Like Antandrus, I appreciate your creation of all of the missing "Years in music" articles. I, also, had previously started articles for some of the missing years (last autumn; only a few of them). Say, I'd like to apologize for something I did, and then ask a question to learn from it. A few days ago, I removed the a5 notation from Monteverdi's fourth book of madrigals in the publications section of 1603 in music, because I was not familiar with this type of note and thought that it might just possibly be a typo. However, I afterwards saw that you used the same type of notation for some of his other madrigal books on other Year in music pages. So, today, I've replaced the notation on the 1603 in music page, because it was obviously intentional. May I please learn more about this, by asking you to explain to me what the notations symbolize? Much appreciated, Lini 10:33, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the explanation. I happen to have in my possession at this time (from the library) a source (Silke Leopold's Monteverdi - Music in Transition), which contains a Chronological List of Monteverdi's Works, including the original Italian names of the books of madrigals. I would be very happy to update the "Year in music" entries with these names :) Cheers, Lini 20:19, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 1565 in music
Kindly add up some info regarding the topic. It is looking very vague and unencyclopedic. Thanks Sushant gupta 14:29, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Red Berry
With all due respect, if Red Berry is a notable wrestler then there should be a decent amount of information available to have written a real article. I would not even consider this a stub! Not only is there no information, there are no citations, or references! If you feel that this is a notable person, then in true wikipedia fashion it would be advised that you begin this article in your personal wiki sandbox, and re-post it when adequate. I am re-posting the prod, and if it is taken down again without any real updates made on the page... I will be forced to nominate it under AfD. If you noticed, I was trying to be nice about it by not going to speedy delete. Please do not take offense, I am looking out for the best interest of Wikipedia and it's content. Hellswasteland 13:30, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- Good job on the article, it is definatly a start. I'm sure you can understand where I was coming from. I'll leave the prod and AfD off because it looks as though you are going to continue working on the article. I'm still not too sure of his notability status, however the expansion of the article is good enough for me. Hellswasteland 13:23, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Karluks
Hello Geoffg, I am observing your work in the Karluks article, and I want to express my overall gratitude and appreciation of your efforts, even though some finer moments tend to get lost or disappear in the process. Barefact 05:54, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have started Chigils, and expect that it would also need a TLC at some point. BTW, just for your information, Tele is "carriage" in Turkic, here comes Slavic/Russian borrowing "telega", Mongol "telereg" etc. Spelling "Tiele" is a reconstruction of Chinese rendering of the "Tele" by the Chinese Pinyin rules, the usage of "Tiele" is much justified in literal translation of the Chinese chronicles, but why replace outside the Chinese chronicles the ingenious word with a foreign distortion? Anyway, this is a finer moment, your help is appreciated. Barefact 06:40, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
-
- Turkish naming convention on Wikipedia? => I have no clue. I do not question your good intentions, only provide background information. Tele seems to have a right spelling and a right reference. Tiele replaces the ingenious word with a Chinese Pinyin spelling, and leads astray from the right source (Tiele) to an indirect source (Dingling). But that is one reporter's opinion, I may be partial...
-
- and once we are at it, I was reviewing the references, and noticed that the map of Altaic languages and Turkic languages contradict each other. The Altaic map, which is supposed to cover all Turkic areas and way more, does not show the European portions shown on the Turkic map. Is there a way for me to fix the contradiction? Or should I send a message to whoever posted the Altaic map? Barefact 07:38, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Hello Geoffg, I am observing your work in the Kimek article, and I want to again express my overall gratitude and appreciation of your efforts. Without taking this as negative, please note comments: 1. Lake Barkul and Lake Baikal are two completely different geographical locations, see for example http://depts.washington.edu/silkroad/texts/hhshu/notes24.html
2. Hsien Pi, Xianbei, Xiānbēi, Hsien-pei (and more) are all versions of the Chinese Pinyin spelling, quite appropriate when translating or directly citing Chinese annals, but these are not codified names for the Syanbi people. Thre mechanical replacement of Syanbi with Xianbei intentionally or accidenatlly reduces the access of the people who are not intimately familiar with this particular Chinese version of the spelling, a quick googling allows to observe a fairly wide usage of alternate spellings (Syanbi, Hsien Pi, Hsien-pei etc.) in English language literature. You can see that Mongols prefer Syanbi, and for Mongols Syanbi is a native form, and Xianbei is a foreign form. In addition the description is a referenced material, and Gumilev [1] did not use the Chinese Pinyin spelling, but rather the undistorted Mongilian form.
3. A very similar situation is with other terms that for some reasons include the (gh) part. Maybe 100-200 years ago some venturing explorers tried to phonetisize names like Uygurs, in some particular dialect they encountered, but that is water under the bridge long ago. Again, there is no codified form of the term, and a quick googling allows to observe a variety of names used for Uigurs in English language literature. Reducing trhis veriety to a single form reduces the access of the people who are not intimately familiar with this particular spelling, and who would never guess that for some reasons they should search for Uighurs in addition to Uigurs. I think it is more productive to list main variations in the heading line, and then maintain the names given in the perticular referenced material. Barefact 21:42, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
- Would you mind sending me your e-mail address, I have a subject that does not belong to the Talk pages. Barefact 22:01, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for the reply. Spellings: I do share your intents, it is the inadverent consequences that I am concerned. Seems that the some header spelling initially came on ad hoc basis, without appreciating consequences. Uyghur is one of them, there are a number of others. Bringing it on the talk page for every case, instead of setting some common and common sense policies, is less desirable than to agree to some principals, and I think that the simplicity, native terms, and "googleability" should be major factors in every case. Naturally, I am talking about the cases where different spellings are accepted, not the cases where spelling is uniform accross the English language literature. For WP objectives, the accessability should preempt uniformity, would not you agree? And if there is a WP record of discussion on this subject, I am sorry that I do not know about it, I would like to learn of it.
-
- E-mail: Because I saw your interest in Turkic-related subjects, and I am interested too, I may offer you some subjects along your interests, these are my strictly privite thoughts where I would appreciate a non-opiniated feedback. Barefact 20:52, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement. That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page. We not only received feedback at the newsletter's talk page, but I also received some messages on my talk page as well. Thank you to those who responded. The only complaint we received was about typos, and we will try our best to keep the newsletter error-free. Please continue to offer feedback and new ideas for the next issue. The more we have, the more we'll know how to improve the newsletter. Again, thanks! Contributors to this Issue:

Hi Geoff! Thanks for that! Yes, I'm currently stuck in the middle of it; I have seven different books open on my table, including all three volumes of Einstein's The Italian Madrigal. I haven't written the late 16th century, 17th century, or the German and English sections yet ... if you have any ideas, changes, additions, feel free!
