[edit] coord

I tried editing this to call {{coord}} with display=title, and thereby emit a geo microformat, but it breaks the second example, above. Any suggestions? Andy Mabbett 11:57, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I'll look into this. I've been aware of the exitence of {{coord}} but when I last checked it was still under development. – Caroig (talk) 13:51, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I've created a sandbox version using the {{coord}} (Template:Geobox coor/sandbox) and it seems to be working all right, would you please review the output? BTW, it seems to a great template, when I see all the options … I needed something that universal when I created the Geoboxes, but I only created this one which is rather very primitive. I'll study it and try to change the code of the Geoboxes so that they call {{coord}} directly. The major issue seems to be that I know neither the form nor the number of possible input values (mins and secs are sometimes not defined). – Caroig (talk) 16:51, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. As you can see above (for now) there are bugs, caused by "25|30||N" which should be "25|30|N" . Andy Mabbett 19:28, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
What a … I am. There's nothing wrong with the {{coord}} examples, neither with the implemantion here. I just switched the N and E symbols in the examples. The bug message helped. So it seems the template is ready to be moved to use {{coord}}. – Caroig (talk) 19:39, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
As for the second (direct use) I was only checking how the template would behave, as the Geoboxes produce such input. – Caroig (talk) 19:41, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
All's well that ends well. If you could switch over to using coord, that would be great, thank you. Next is to look at using hCard markup in your templates. Please let me know if I can help with that. You might also be interested in the metadata discussion (currently about biographies, but of more general relevance) at WP:PERSONDATA's talk page. I've switched this template to call {{coord}} (and {{Geobox coor title}}). I believe it can be simplified even more as {{coord}} performs some check this templates does too (plus displaying coordinates both inline and inthe title) and it might help to put more functions into the Geoboxes.
I'll look at hCard, seems to be a real good idea for improving the Geoboxes as it has the same aim as the Geoboxes, to provide unified output easily readable by parsing. Actually the Geoboxes seem to be ready for that, putting emphasis on strict database-like fields. I can't, though, promise any rapid progress. These days I spend more of free time with outdoor activities than Wikipedia. – Caroig (talk) 20:14, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough - that sounds like a sensible way to spend you time ;-) I've added some hCard markup to {{Geobox Settlement}}. There are other parameters, but the template is complex and I don't want to mess it up while I'm as tired as I am now! Andy Mabbett 20:22, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
I guess the hCard markup can also be applied on the leader fields in the {tl|Geobox Settlement}}. I'll try to use hCard on {{Geobox Protected Area}} - there are, e.g., a couple of fields for the protected area headquarters. Also, I guess I already know how to get rid of the {{Geobox coor}} completely. I hope to find some time tomorrow, I'm more asleep than awake too. – Caroig (talk) 20:34, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
