[edit] Traditions

first day of school stuff? when did that start being a tradition? I graduated '03, and I have never heard of that. Yincrash 08:52, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

That's just what people do. There was actually an article in the school paper about it, saying that it originated in '03. Who knows...? -Boss1000 22:40, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] parents

[edit] NPOV

  • This article does not follow NPOV, as in WP:PRESTIGE. If anybody can, please fix. Also posted link to WP:PRESTIGE as comment in edit page. Zig 03:34, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Just from a former student: I thought that for at least one year while I was there (1997-2000) we were considered the number 1 in the nation academically. I have no evidence, though -- just what I recall from my experience there.

I've almost completely redone the article. I hope it's better now. It fits more with what the other high school articles I've seen have. -Boss1000 23:03, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unofficial site

The walton unofficial site link at the bottom of the article needs to go. I didn't put it there, and since it has NOTHING to do with the school it doesn't belong. Even if you can convince someone it belongs there i just rm -rf'd the site this morning :P I'll try to work on nuetrality for this article soon. --Skywolf talk/contribs 19:35, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Old, outdated link, nothing more. Probably just another reserved host. -Boss1000 23:03, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
No it was a real site, I own it. I deleted it this morning.. --Skywolf talk/contribs 00:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unnecessary information?

Is the detailed team list necessary for the Academic Bowl? I mean, we don't go listing the football line-up. I'm removing it, and if people think otherwise, feel free to say why here... - Boss1000 00:59, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Controversies

There should be a section dedicated to the controversies surrounding the school. I can't find the news articles - but I think in 2000 (or 2001 maybe?) there were a couple football players that made the national news by stealing an SUV and smashing some mailboxes. They concludedthe evening by dumping the stolen vehicle into the Chattahoochee River. Drsocc 00:11, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

If some old article could be found, sure, but otherwise I think it's better to leave it out. - Boss1000 02:14, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to ask Yin if he can find it. I remember it was a really big deal. My buddy's dad who was in Canada ended up watching it on Canadian news (guess it was a slow news day) and calling home about it. Drsocc 06:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

It probably isn't notable - but the website www.waltonhigh.com - prior to being a forum for the school's students was a pornographic website. Drsocc 00:13, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I heard about that, too. You're right, though: not quite notable. - Boss1000 02:14, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't think the section on the controversy of the football players and being arrested is relevant enough to be included in the article, I mean, it's not really a significant event about the actual history of the school, just students who went to the school. I could understand if something national like Colombine or an event of that magnitude(not suggesting it has to be negative) had taken place at Walton, but the football player mailbox bashing incident doesn't seem significant enough to include. As of this signing I am removing that section, it can be re-added if enough evidence is shown to prove significant relevance to the school article. Rabid9797 01:04, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Actually, it does have a strong connection to the school, if I didn't make it clear enough in the section. There was an disagreement between the principal and the judge and various teachers concerning whether the boys could play football or if they were innocent, etc. There might be more notable things in the school's history, but until those come to light, this still (I think) meets general notability standards. - Boss1000 02:10, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Until you or anyone responds otherwise, I'll put it back. - Boss1000 01:58, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree with you it does have a strong connection with the school, but the section doesn't agree with the style the rest of the article is written in. The whole article is more about a description of Walton and the various aspects of campus life and academics(sans history). A story about conflict the staff of the school and controversy in the local government(which still very connected to Walton) just doesn't seem to fit with the style of the rest of the article. [edit] Alumni

Tim Orff is a teacher at the school. Stop adding him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drsocc (talkcontribs)

James Orff is a teacher at the school. Tim Orff is his brother who works at [WZGC]. You're welcome. 24.99.238.20 (talk) 05:04, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Asssesement

This article has been requested to be assessed by the WikiProject Schools team. This article has had its previous rating of "Start" upgraded to "B" and a importance assigned as "Mid". The feedback from this assessment is as follows: A strong article with plenty of topics covered with some pictures and a infobox. To improve this article needs cite more of its references and resources and expand some topics further, such as traditions, history and perhaps controversies. Camaron1 | Chris 09:24, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Reassessed as "B" class. --Roswell native 21:11, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] George Walton?

hey the part in there about it being named after the Walton who signed the declaration of independence is wrong. It was named after some other walton who donated a bunch of money who lived in the 1930's. im pretty sure its in the agenda —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.32.69.137 (talkcontribs)

Where did you hear this? I'd love to correct it, but I have yet to see anything in the agenda or hear anything to that affect. - Boss1000 02:01, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
I'll probably put that fact back in soon, since chances are slim it's a mysterious person with lots of money over a signer of the DoI. - Boss1000 19:44, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Failed "good article" nomination

Upon its review on September 12, 2007, this good article candidate was quick-failed because it:

had an obviously non-neutral treatment of a topic

thus making it ineligible for good article consideration. According to WP:Neutral point of view, "All Wikipedia articles and other encyclopedic content must be written from a neutral point of view, representing views fairly, proportionately and without bias."

This article did not receive a thorough review, and may not meet other parts of the good article criteria. It has numerous instances of academic boosterism, it is missing quality references for controversial claims, and is not compliant with the Manual of Style I encourage you to remedy this problem (and any others) and resubmit it for consideration. If you feel that this review is in error, feel free to take it to a GA review. Thank you for your work so far.— Noetic Sage 00:01, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Additionally, the two logos need fair use rationales to state their reason for inclusion on the article. --Nehrams2020 00:08, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] History

The two sections I added under "History" are often deleted without reason, and while I understand why, I don't know myself if they should stay or be removed. They're events that attracted the attention of the local media, but they can be seen as either insignificant for the school's overall history or inappropriate for the article. If every removal weren't anonymous and without any written reason, I wouldn't be debating it so much. I'd appreciate any other input on this. - Boss1000 23:26, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Walton High School Seal.gif

Image:Walton High School Seal.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Accomplishments

This section is ridiculously long. Would the person who collected/added the information consolidate the information or cite some sources? Hurrah (talk) 04:14, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I am not the original person who added the accomplishment information, but I would be more than happy to clean it up a little(remove non-relevant/minor accomplishments). Specifically, I would like to remove some of the mentions of AP courses/classes/achievements made by the school or individual classes, some of the minor SAT information, and minor accomplishments made by individual students. If anyone has any objections or would like to refine/add to the list of accomplishments to remove, please let me know. (If there are no responses in the next week I'll just go ahead and start removing things). Rabid9797 (talk) 05:17, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
