[edit] Nissen Factory in Brentwood, UK

This article states that Nissen established a factory in Brentwood, Essex in 1949. This seems unlikely based on local evidence and I would appreciate any information to help substantiate this. It seems that Ted Blake, a UK-based Nissen employee, imported the first Nissen trampoline to UK in 1949 and local records seen in Brentwood Planning Department show a continuous period of applications by Ted Blake for modifications etc... between 1968 and 1989 for premises at 33 Tallon Road, Hutton Industrial Estate. There were also a smaller number for Unit 4, Prospect Way between 1982 and 1986. The Tallon Road premises were first built in 1962 for Henderson Sliding Doors Ltd and were, presumably, occupied by them for a while before Nissen took them over. If a factory was in existence before 196n - where was it? Any information gratefully received. DaveK@BTC (talk) 10:20, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

The two Biography links in the main article say 1956 but no address is given. I have changed the date in the main article. Other googling mostly finds mirrors and copies of this article, one article that specifically mentions Ted Blake on www.acrobaticsports.com but that doesn't really give a date except the mid 1950s. Cheers Dabbler. I have also noted that the date Nissen ceased operations is vague and maybe with a little more digging we can tie that down a bit as well. Referring to local planning records, again, (quite weird seeing scanned in Kalamazoo strips on the planning office computer!) we see that the latest application there is in 1986 when Nissen International applied for a change of use of their Prospect Way premises at Hutton Industrial Estate to create Mezzanine Floor offices - this may be as a prelude to winding up the business? The latest date for any development at the main premises in Tallon Road is even earlier at 1984 and the next reference is for refurbishment and change of use into a car workshop in 1989 - presumably nothing to do with Nissen by then.
