Talk:George Eliot/Comments

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a good beginning to the Eliot page, but I believe that it could stand with some reorganization and additions.

  • The biography section should be split into subsections so that it is not so long (this is a wikepedia convention).
  • I would argue that the section on her works should be greatly expanded; perhaps even a subsection on each major novel or perhaps a subsection on each genre in which she wrote.
  • The article has an excellent list of sources but is not itself footnoted - please do so.
  • The lead should reflect the rest of the article; right now, it is oddly focused on her name.
  • Also, she should be referred to as "Eliot" throughout the article. I don't want to get into a big feminist debate, but seeing her referred to as Mary Ann, etc. rankled. I have a feeling the Dickens article does not refer to him as "Charles."

Last names are encyclopedic names. I've switched most of the "Mary Anns" and "Marians" to "Evans", as it seems her career under "Eliot" is already covered. -- Yamara 14:38, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
