[edit] Douglas-Hamilton/Hamilton

If anyone is confused as to the naming of the offspring of Anne Duchess of Hamilton, and William, Earl of Selkirk, I suggest visiting Lennoxlove House. There, on the main staircase, are contemporary portraits of all of the male offspring of that union, including "Lord George Douglas-Hamilton" The frames, which were specifically made at the time for the paintings, all clearly bear the surname Douglas-Hamilton. If specific Douglas-Hamiltons chose to shorten their names for brevity's sake, or others chose to call them by one or other of the compound surname, that does not alter the fact that they were still Douglas-Hamiltons. The only true unadorned Hamiltons of this family were the oldest brothers, as Duke of Hamilton. Brendandh 11:17, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
