[edit] Death of Matthew Courtney
As of the timestamp below, I personally consider that it is inappropriate and a little insensitive for any information to be added about the very recent death of George's son, Matthew, in a tragic accident. I have already removed one set of references to this, and would appreciate my fellow editors' compassion and tact in this matter. Within a suitable period of time, it may be correct to include this information. Thanks. Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 00:43, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi, I understand the sensitivity concerns that you personally have, but I don't feel that you are correct. If someone dies, it tends to be reported around the time it happens, not at some point later when people might be less upset - awful though that is. The details of Mr Courtney's son's death appeared in major newspapers such as The Times at the time, with reference to who his father was. I added the references the first time around and didn't re-add them after you removed them. I am not going to add them back in now as I don't want to get into a disagreement about it and the page is about Courtney because he is a referee, not what happened to his son. However, I don't personally think that timing is a legitimate reason for not including the information here. It's not as if The Times didn't run the story because it had happened in the recent past and it is not as if the deaths of other people and their families aren't recorded on Wikipedia as soon as they happen. As I say, as you feel strongly about it, I won't put the references back in, but I don't think the sensitivity you are talking about is really in line with the idea of this site, which should report as it is. If the death of the son is considered non-notable re his father, that's another matter. Unlikelyheroine 19:36, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
