[edit] Routing

From its western terminus at S.R. 39 est of Georgetown, State Route 27 travels northeast, then east, travelling through Lumpkin before arriving in Richland. In Richland, S.R. 27 begins cosignage with U.S. 280 east through Preston and Plains before arriving in Americus. In the eastern part of Americus, S.R. 27 departs U.S. 280 and continues east to Vienna. The route continues northeast from Vienna, serving as exit 112 for Interstate 75, before continuing northeast to Hawkinsville. In Hawkinsville, S.R. 27 becomes cosigned with U.S. 341. The two routes travel east-southeast through southeast Georgia, passing through several county seats, including McRae, Hazlehurst, and Jesup, before arriving in the Brunswick area. After an interchange with Interstate 95 in Arco, the routes continue south, through downtown Brunswick, before turning east to meet their eastern terminus at U.S. 17/S.R. 25.

[edit] Significance

State Route 27 sees only minor traffic west of Hawkinsville, except in and around Plains and Americus. The route east of Hawkinsville, cosigned with U.S. 341, is a major route in southeast Georgia, and receives more traffic than the western section, with an Average Annual Daily Traffic count of more than 5,000 vehicles in many areas.[1]

[edit] Banner routes

State Route 27 has one banner route, Georgia State Route 27 Business. The route connects the S.R. 27 mainline with the downtown area of Eastman; S.R. 27 bypasses the town to the south. State Route 27 Business is cosigned with U.S. 23 between downtown and S.R. 27 on the southeast side of the town.
