Georgetown University Hospital was founded in 1898 as part of Georgetown University, a Jesuit post-secondary institution in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington DC.
The hospital has over 600 licensed beds and employs almost 4,000 faculty personnel.[1][2] It is part of MedStar Health, a non-profit healthcare organization that operates a community-based network of seven hospitals and other healthcare services in the Baltimore-Washington region.[3]
Georgetown University Hospital is a teaching hospital, with the education and research components administered by Georgetown University Medical Center. Georgetown University Hospital is consistently ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.[4]
Georgetown is the first hospital in the district to be awarded "Magnet Status" by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The Lombardi Comprehensive Care Center is the only facility in the Washington, D.C. area designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a Comprehensive Care Center.
