Georgetown GO Station is a GO Transit and VIA Rail railway station. It is the western terminus for the Georgetown line, although between 1990 and 1993 some trains continued to Guelph, which is now connected to the system by feeder buses from the Guelph Bus Terminal. The station also includes a yard which can store four GO trains overnight or over the weekend to keep the trains' batteries charged. It is located at 55 Queen Street in Georgetown, near Mountainview Road North.
Like many other stations, Georgetown features a station building housing a waiting room and ticket sales along with car parking facilities. GO Transit has no plans, however, to install a Ticket Vending Machine (TVM), as with several other stations. Although the station does not have a dedicated bus loop for GO Transit buses, they can still enter the station because it is away from the main streets of Georgetown.
Ridership on the Georgetown corridor is growing, but there are currently no plans for major improvements to the train services on the Georgetown line. This is largely due to the lack of funding, the busy CN freight trains running on the same tracks, and to a lesser extent, the limited amount of storage space for the trains.
Due to ridership growth, the Georgetown station parking has been expanded via an addition of a parking lot north of the tracks. The main parking lot is south of the tracks, and is separated from the station by the storage tracks; as a result, it is connected to the platforms by an underground pedestrian tunnel.
The present design of the station does not allow for wheelchair access, but plans are underway to make the station accessible by 2009.
