George Washington Middle School (Virginia)

George Washington Middle School is located at 1005 Mount Vernon Avenue in the city of Alexandria, Virginia. It first opened in 1935 as a high school as a merger of two prior high schools named Alexandria and George Mason.[1] It was converted to a middle school in 1971, as part of a reorganization of the Alexandria City Public Schools System's secondary schools.[2]

Notable alumni of the high school include: Jim Morrison of The Doors, Willard Scott of NBC's The Today Show, and John Phillips and Cass Elliot, both of The Mamas and Papas.
