From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Tickner (born September 8, 1946, in Syracuse, New York, USA) played Rhythm Guitar and cowrote songs as a founding member of Journey. Prior to joining Journey, George was a member of the seminal San Francisco psychedelic rock band Frumious Bandersnatch, along with fellow Journey founder Ross Valory. After the release of the band's debut album, he left Journey to attend Stanford Medical School. Upon George's departure, Neal Schon took over all of the band's guitar duties, until Jonathan Cain joined in 1981. Singer Steve Augeri) picked up the guitar for Journey's 2005 release "Generations" and the band's subsequent "30th Anniversary Tour.
Since leaving Journey, George has maintained an active interest in music, as well as contacts with his former bandmates. George and Journey bassist Ross Valory created "The Hive", a Studio where he continued to write and compose music. George, Ross and keyboardist Stevie 'Keys' Roseman came together to form the band VTR, releasing an album called Cinema, which featured other present and former members of Journey, such as Neal Schon, Steve Smith, and Prairie Prince[1].
In January 2005, George appeared with past and present members of the band to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
