George Frederick Seward (1840 – November 28, 1910) was an insurance executive[1] and United States diplomat during the late 19th century. He served as "Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary" to China from 1876 until 1880.

Seward, a Californian, was appointed to the position of U.S. Minister to China on January 7, 1876 and he presented his credentials to the Chinese on April 24, 1876. Seward served as minister until August 16, 1880.[2]
