George Smith Houston (January 17, 1811December 31, 1879) was an American Democratic politician who was the Governor of Alabama from 1874 to 1878. Born in 1811 in Franklin, Tennessee, he was elected to the House of Representatives in 1841, whereupon he served nine consecutive terms. He was then elected to the Senate in 1866 but was not allowed to take his seat, as Alabama was still under Reconstruction. He was later reelected and served in the Senate from March 4, 1879 until his death at the end of that year in Athens, Alabama.
