George Pyrounakis

George Pyrounakis (in Greek, Γεώργιος Πυρουνάκης) is a Greek Orthodox priest. Pyrounakis was born in 1910 in Adamas, on the Greek island of Milos, to a family originally from Crete. Pyrounakis is renowned for his charity work in Eleusis (a township near Piraeus), his support of poor children, his preaching against Greece's military dictatorship of 1967-74 (through sermons delivered in the St Stephanos church in Boyati, near Athens), and his sermons and writings emphasising the need for spiritual awakening. Pyrounakis died in Athens in 1988.
