George Mitsainas

Major General George Mitsainas was born on 16 May 1938 in Thespies, Greece. He graduated as a Second Lieutenant (Pilot) from the Hellenic Air Force Academy. He flew T-6A Harvards at Dekelia AFB, T-33A Shooting Stars at Elefsis and other Air Force Bases, F-86D Sabre Dogs at 337th TFS at Elefsis AFB, F-104G Starfighters at 336th TFS at Araxos AFB, Noratlas at 354th TAS at Elefsis AFB as well as CL-215 and C-47 having a total of 6,200 hours and he was retired at 1987 as a Major General.

He served as a Commander of the 354 Tactical Airlift Squadron and as a Commander of the 134 Combat Group at Santorini island. During his career he served as Director of Operations at the Air Force Support Command as well as other positions. He served as Assistant Secretary of the Supreme Military Council at the Hellenic Armed Forces General Staff.

He took part at the operations "Victory" (NIKI) at 1974 ([1])and he was proposed for the Golden Medal of Bravery ("Χρυσούν Αριστείον Ανδρείας"). He was honoured by the Hellenic Air Force Retired Union for his participation at the Operation Victory.

He completed his studies to various schools in Greece and abroad. He was trained at the Federal Aviation Administration for Flight Checks and for years was the only pilot in HAF performing Flight Checks for the Hellenic Air Force as well as for the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority. In 1991 he was served as member of the BOD of the Hellenic Aerospace Indusrty.
