George Fenner

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Fenner raised the American flag over Mexico City when it fell. When Mexico was captured Fenner was one of a dozen men selected to hoist the flag above the fallen city. He was the sole survivor of this group.

George was a resident of Bucyrus, Ohio for fifty years. He was born in Pennsylvania and served throughout the Mexican-American War.

Fenner was a contractor. He built many of the older buildings in Bucyrus and neighboring cities.

George Fenner died when he "dropped dead" whilst eating his favorite Bratwurst on a Bucyrus' street on October 10, 1900.
