George F. Johnson IV (D) is the current superintendent of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police, appointed by Governor O'Malley in 2007.[1]

Johnson is a 1971 graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School. In 1994 he graduated with an AA (Criminal Justice) from the Anne Arundel Community College. Johnson is also a 1996 graduate of the National Sheriff's Institute and a 1999 graduate of the FBI National Academy.[2]

Johnson was the elected sheriff of Anne Arundel County, Maryland from 1994 - 2007. In 2007, he unsuccessfully ran for County Executive of Anne Arundel County and lost against John R. Leopold (R). Johnson subsequently was appointed to Superintendent of the Maryland NRP.[3]
