George Cowan

George A. Cowan is an American physical chemist.

A graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (bachelor of science in Chemistry) and Carnegie Mellon University (doctorate of science), he worked on the top secret Manhattan Project at Los Alamos during World War II. He was also the driving influence in founding the Santa Fe Institute together with Murray Gell-Mann (Nobel Prize winner) and others.

He received the Enrico Fermi Award.. among other honors.
