George Cholmondeley, 2nd Marquess of Cholmondeley

George Horatio Cholmondeley, 2nd Marquess of Cholmondeley PC (16 January 1792-8 May 1870), known as Viscount Malpas from 1792 to 1815 and as Earl of Rocksavage from 1815 to 1827, was a British peer and Tory Member of Parliament.

Cholmondeley was the eldest son of George James Cholmondeley, 1st Marquess of Cholmondeley, and Lady Georgiana Charlotte Bertie, daughter of Peregrine Bertie, 3rd Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven. Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole was his great-great-grandfather. Cholmondeley was educated at Eton. In 1817 he was elected to the House of Commons for Castle Rising, a seat he held until 1821. The latter year he was summoned to the House of Lords through a writ of acceleration in his father's junior title of Baron Newburgh, and in 1830 Cholmondeley was admitted to the Privy Council. On his mother's death in 1838 he succeeded to part of the office of Lord Great Chamberlain, and served as Deputy Lord Great Chamberlain between 1838 and 1870.

Lord Cholmondeley married, firstly, Caroline Campbell, daughter of Sir Colin Campbell, in 1812. After her death in 1815 he married, secondly, Lady Susan Somerset, daughter of Henry Charles Somerset, 6th Duke of Beaufort, in 1830. Both marriages were childless. Cholmondeley died in May 1870, aged 78, and was succeeded in his titles by his younger brother William. Lady Cholmondeley died in 1886.
