George Barker is the Democratic state senator-elect for the 39th District of the Virginia Senate, having defeated Republican incumbent Jay O'Brien in 2007.

Barker was born on December 1st, 1951 in Sacramento California. He served as the chair of the Fairfax County Transportation Advisory Committee. He and his wife Jane live in Clifton, Virginia.

Barker announced his candidacy in 2007 against incumbent Republican Jay O'Brien, who represented the 39th District, located in Fairfax County. The campaign was hard fought, along with several other races in northern Virginia. Unnoficial results show that Barker won by a margin of 51%-49%; or just under 850 votes out of nearly 39,000 cast.
