Doesn't this relate to generalized eigenvalues that satisfy the modified characteristic equation $\det(\mathbf{A}-\lambda \mathbf{B}) = 0$ for matrices $\mathbf{B}$ not limited to the identiy matrix as in normal eigen-systems?
